Product Overview

The Chapin Wet / Dry Hose-End Sprayer #6005 is one of the easiest hose-end sprayers we've ever sold. Use both liquid lawn and garden chemicals as well as water soluble granules in this sprayer. The large dial on the top can be turned to the liquid side that will mix from 3 gallons to 21 gallons of liquid chemicals or turned to the granular side for dry granules.

The most important feature is that this #6005 comes with a diptube/straw that is attached to the sprayer. It must be used when the dial is turned to liquid use and must be removed when dial is turned to dry use. It cannot be used when spraying dry granular substances. The large holding container will allow you to spray from 3 to 21 gallons of mixed solution with just one fill! It will allow from 1 1/4 pounds to 2 1/2 pounds of dry granular. The Chapin 6005 is simple to use, durable, and includes 3 spray patterns: bullet, flat spray or gentle shower. Also features an insulated comfort grip handle with a thumb slide on/off control. Simply attach to the end of a garden hose and the Chapin 6005 mixes just the right amount of pesticide with the water being dispersed. This sprayer is ideal for applying large volumes of pesticide to lawn or garden.

The Chapin 6004 Hose End Sprayer has been discontinued by Chapin and replaced by the Chapin Wet / Dry Hose-End Sprayer #6005.

The large holding container will allow you to spray from 3 to 21 gallons of mixed solution with just one fill! It will allow from 1 1/4 pounds to 2.5 pounds of dry granular. Instructions:

The Straw/Diptube must be used when spraying liquid and cannot be used when spraying dry granular material.

  1. When the liquid side of the dial is used, the straw/diptube must be attached.
  2. When the dry side of the sprayer is used, the straw/diptube must be removed.

Filling Instructions:

  1. Unscrew jar from sprayer.
  2. If using granules, remove straw from sprayer. If using liquid, make sure straw is attached to nipple on underside of sprayer.
  3. Place jar on flat surface. Pour in amount of liquid that will provide the amount of product you want. (Multiply the parts per liter/gallon shown on the product label times the number of liters/gallons you wish to make.)
  4. Rotate product dial to desired setting. In the case of granules, you may use any quantity in the jar you wish.

Guide:

Liquid Side:

  • 11.4 liters/3 gallons
  • 22.7 liters/6 gallons
  • 56.8 liters/15 gallons
  • 79.5 liters/21 gallons

Granular Side:

  • 560 grams/1 - 1/4 pounds
  • 1130 grams/ 2-1/2 pounds

Instructions For The Dry/Granular Side:

  1. Remove sprayer from bottle and take straw off nipple on bottom of sprayer.
  2. After removing straw, fill bottle with granules to the manufacturer's recommendation for coverage. Use the handy scale on the side of the label as a guide. Put sprayer back onto the bottle.
  3. Screw sprayer on hose end using the convenient hose swivel. Make sure thumb switch on top of the handle is pushed all the way FORWARD. This is the "OFF" position.
  4. Dial your product knob counterclockwise to the "granule" setting on the dry side of the dial. Select the spray pattern you wish to use by turning the head on the front of the sprayer. Be sure water switch is in the forward or "OFF" position.
  5. Turn on water spigot or faucet for hose. Be sure thumb switch is in the "OFF" position.
  6. Slide thumb switch back as far as it can go to the "ON" position. Water will exit sprayer and begin to mix and fill jar with granules in it. This creates a mix which will begin to exit sprayer when jar contents are full. NOTE: color of granules will appear dark in color when you begin and then lighten in color. When the jar is clear, you are done. Unscrew the jar and dump contents on your plant. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for coverage.
  7. Some products other than granules will not flow through a regular liquid type sprayer because they are too coarse. A clog free sprayer is the only way to spray them. Fish emulsion, liquid iron, liquid sulfur, or liquid lime are good examples. Just switch the setting on the "DRY" side and follow the same directions outlined.
  8. When the product selector knob is in the "OFF" position, you may use your WET OR DRY SPRAYER as a watering tool for your plants.

Instructions For The Liquid Side:

The liquid side must always be used with a straw/diptube as this is a powerful and very accurate venturi system which draws liquid product through a small opening and mixes it with the water passing through.

  • 1. Remove lid and make sure straw is on the nipple on the bottom of the sprayer.

YOU MUST HAVE A STRAW WHEN USING LIQUID PRODUCTS.

  • 2. The liquid side is unique but simple. It is designed to provide you with various quantities of properly mixed liquid for various size jobs. So, you must first select the number of liters/gallons of product for the area you want to spray.

 There are four selections:

  • 11 liters/3 gallons
  • 23 liters/6 gallons
  • 57 liters/15 gallons
  • 80 liters/21 gallons

This means when you are out of product in the jar, you have sprayed the total liters/gallon of mixed product you have selected.

  • 3. After determining your needed liters/gallons quanitity, multiply the number of liters/gallons desired times the quanitity per liters/gallons recommended by the manufacturer. Pour this quantity directly into the jar.
  • 4. Fill the jar with water to the line that represents the total liters/gallons you want to spray.
  • 5. Turn selection knob to the desired liters/gallons of spray setting. DO NOT TURN WATER ON WHEN ADJUSTING SPRAY NOZZLE.
  • 6. Select desired spray pattern.
  • 7. Spray until empty.
  • 8. Let's say you want to make and spray 57 liters/15 gallons of properly mixed product. The manufacturers label tells you to use .25 milliliter per liter/one ounce per gallon, you pour 110 milliliters/15 ounces of product into the jar. Then you pour water into the jar until the combined liquid level reaches the 57 liter/15 gallon mark which is on the jar. Put sprayer on the jar and be sure dial is on the correct liter/gallon setting. When the sprayer is empty, you have sprayed 57 liters/15 gallons of properly mixed product.
  • 9. Clean sprayer and jar by rinsing jar and filling partially full of clean water and spraying until empty. If particles are stuck and exit hole is blocked, carefully poke needle or straight pin through hole in bottom of sprayer at each setting. Sometimes shaking the sprayer will suffice or the use of fast repetitive water burst (on-off).
  • 10. When the product selector knob is in the "OFF" position, you may use your LIQUID & CLOG FREE SPRAYER as a watering tool for your plants.

    Hose End Sprayer

    By Rick on 09/14/2010

    Verified Purchase

Most people won't get real excited about these types of utility lawn/garden tools, and quite frankly I don't either. This one raised the bar on my thoughts, though. This is a very high quality unit, and I'm glad I added it to my order. I had planned on using my current one, I believe an Ortho or some other brand, but side by side, there is a definite difference in quality and function, especially w/ the multi-pattern adjustable spray, it allows for more precise application fitting for the requirement. I rate it a best buy!

I'm Impressed, I was skeptical before I tried it.

    By Thomas on 08/02/2010

    Verified Purchase

I purchased this sprayer to try spraying my pesticides instead or using my backpack. I have used it twice now and it works Great! Plenty of distance, good patterns and chemicals go a long way. I was afraid I was going to waste $30.00 a quart product, but it actually used a little less than the backpack sprayer and covered much faster and better.

    Works Great!!

    By Chris on 07/29/2010

I would've given it a 5 star but sprayer doesn't work if you are trying to spray upwards for trees and bushes. Other than that it works great. Easy to figure out. Very durable.

Perfect Answer for an arduous job!

    By Joanne on 03/15/2012

    Verified Purchase

I have been using a tank sprayer for all my yard and garden needs for several years. I was about to throw in the towel and call Lawn Doctor. The job was tiresome and rather strenouos. I found the Chapin Liquid Hose-end sprayer on your site which I often use for yard care. I used it for the third time yesterday. I cannot say enough positive things about this sprayer. I just put the liquid in the jar, turn the dial to correct ratio, turn on the hose and the job is almost done. I am not exagerrating when I say the yard spraying is done in no time at all. Thank you Chapin for a really time saving, easy to operate sprayer for home use. It is for the novice and the pro.

Q
How do I use Talstar P with the Chapin Liquid Hose End Sprayer 6005?

I purchased Talstar P with a 2 gallon sprayer which works great, but I think this would be better for the front and back of my home. Would I just add 1oz of Talstar P to the container set the dial to 1oz and let the hose do the rest? Does the sprayer shut off when the chemical has all been used?

A
You would add Talstar to the Chapin Liquid Hose End Sprayer and set the dial to 1 oz, hook up to the hose and spray the desired area. If you need to treat a 4,000 sq ft area you would add 4 oz of Talstar P to the reservoir and spray the area until the reservoir was empty.

Q
Same sprayer for weed control/ fertilizer and pesticides?

Can I use the the Chapin Wet/Dry Hose End Sprayer #6005 interchangeably for lawn fertilizers/weed control AND pesticides if I clean it out in between? Or do I need 2 separate sprayers? One for pesticides and one for lawn fertilizer/weed control?

A
You do not want to use the  Chapin Wet / Dry Hose-End Sprayer #6005 or any other sprayer for applying weed control and pesticides. You want seperate sprayers.

Q
How far does the Hose-End Sprayer treat?
A
The Chapin Hose End Sprayer, like any hose end sprayer all depends on the pressure behind the hose.  Typically it would only go 5 to 10 feet.  If you are looking for a sprayer that reaches beyond that, we do sell the Chapin Slide Pump Sprayer, which can reach up to 30 feet or more.

Q
What do the numbers on the dial mean on the Chapin Wet / Dry Hose end sprayer?

I want to apply 1oz per 1000 square feet. I don't see a #1. Could you explain how to use the dial correctly?

A

The numbers on the top dial indicate how much water you will apply with the concentrate that you put into the sprayer reservoir. The larger numbers are in Liters, and the smaller number is in Gallons.

First, you need to determine how many gallons of water you will be using. To find out how many gallons of water you need to use you will calculate the square footage of the area to be treated (Most insecticides recommend 1 gallon of mixed solution 1,000 sq feet). For instance, if you have a 6,000 square foot yard that you plan on treating then you would need to multiply 6 x 1 which equals 6 – You would then add 6 oz of Demand CS to the reservoir. Once you add the desired amount of insecticide to the reservoir, then you would add water to the line selected (6 gallon line mark on the reservoir). You would then set the dial on the top of the Chapin Hose End Sprayer to 6 gallons. Do not turn water on when adjusting the spray nozzle. Next, select the desired spray pattern and then spray until the reservoir is empty.
