    Q
Is Crystal Blue Natural Pond Cleaner safe for dogs to swim in the pond after use?
We have a small pond and our dogs swim in it at will multiple times daily - with the cautions on the label and MSDS about getting it in the eyes, ingesting it, etc, is it going to irritate our dogs' eyes and possibly make them ill? Re the cautions on the label and MSDS about getting it in eyes - how is it safe for dogs that swim in the pond
    A

Per the Manufacturer, their Crystal Blue Natural Pond Cleaner is only a natural bacteria and there would be no harm to anyone or animals that came in contact with it. The bacteria is designed to break down algae and muck in ponds to get and keep the pond clean.

    Q
What happens if Crystal Blue Natural Pond Cleaner is used in an above ground pool?
The Crystal Blue lake and pond product was used in an above ground pool. It seems to be turning black, but the filter is running.
    A
Per Sanco the manufacturer, their Crystal Blue Pond Cleaner is not designed to be used in pools and has only been tested in ponds. That being said, they also said that its only a natural bacteria in the product and there would be no harm to anyone swimming in the pool it was used in as its safe to swim in ponds used by it. The bacteria is designed to break down muck and algae in ponds to get the pond cleaner. They are unsure why the pool would be changing to black but their best guess is it may be reacting to the chlorine or other chemicals used in the pool. If the filter does not get the black color to go away over time then you may want to contact the company that used the chemical in your pool to help you get it back to a normal color.

    Q
What water color can we expect after using Crystal Blue Natural Pond Cleaner in our natural 1 acre pond after a period of time?
    A

Crystal Blue Natural Pond Cleaner does not contain any dyes, so the exact color appearance of your water will depend on the plant life, amount of sunlight, time of day, etc. This is a pond cleaner designed to help clear up the water in general. If you would like to have, for instance, black reflective or blue water, then we do sell pond dyes for this purpose.

    Q
Will Crystal Blue Natural Pond Cleaner have any effect in a localized area of a 100 acre lake?
    A

Typically, 1 gallon Crystal Blue Natural Pond Cleaner will only treat about an acre. However, where you treat, it will clean that amount of area. In fact, we recommend applying in sections to prevent taking all the oxygen out of water in the treated area.

  • Asked by Linda from Cleveland, Tx

    Q
Can you tell me in what order and time frame to use Diquat, Crystal Blue Pond Cleaner, and a black pond dye?
Have about 1/2 acre pond with fish, mostly about 2-6 feet and about 8-10 feet in the middle. Have submerged weeds including what we think is chara and some floating scum or algea.
    A

Diquat Water Weed and Landscape Herbicide should be applied first and then the Crystal Blue Pond Cleaner to clear dead vegetation and muck/scum.  Crystal Blue Black Out does not kill anything.  It is used as a pond colorant only, and should be applied every 30 days.  Treatment of aquatic weeds and algae can result in oxygen loss from decomposition of dead algae and weeds. This oxygen loss can cause fish and invertebrate suffocation.  To minimize this hazard, do not treat more than 1/3 to ½ of the water body to avoid depletion of oxygen due to decaying vegetation. Wait at least 14 days between treatments.   Per the Diquat product label, it should be applied in the spring or early summer when the weeds are actively growing  and when water temperatures have reached or exceeded 50 degrees. Please see the label for complete application instructions.
