Do I have to drill holes (for termite bait) on my porch cement slab attached to my house?

My house has a cement porch in the back that is attached to the house. I read that I have to drill holes for the termite bait on the cement slab next to the house. Instead of drilling holes, can I dig a trench on the outside perimeter of this slab? If not, why?

Answer:

Yes, you should drill through the slab where there has been a new slab poured next to the house so that you can protect the expansion joint and that outer wall of the structure. If there is no wood in the porch then it would not benefit you to trench around the exterior of the slab. Keep in mind that we are always trying to treat right next to the structure for termite control and prevention. If there are posts for the porch, then you would want to trench around those support posts that contact the ground.
