Please be sure to read the product label of any insecticide you choose to use to get information on the personal protective safety gear you will need. In most situations, it is recommended that you wear long pants, a long sleeved shirt, closed toe shoes with socks, chemical resistant gloves, and goggles. In areas where ventilation is poor, a manufacturer may recommend you wear a mask or a respirator. Prevent Dollar Spot By Keeping Your Lawn Healthy

Prevention, or taking steps to keep your lawn healthy and manage disease factors, is the key to keeping your lawn free of common turf diseases. Preventing dollar spot involves a couple key steps.
Step 1

Ensure Proper Fertilization

Dollar Spot Disease is common in lawns with deficient nitrogen content. It's very important to fertilize your lawn according to its needs, but this will depend on where you live, your local climate, and even what type of grass you have. Follow the lawn care schedule for your lawn to make sure your lawn is getting the right amount of nitrogen. A lawn fed with proper nutrients will be healthier and be able to resist Dollar Spot Disease (and other diseases) much easier.
Step 2

Minimize Favorable Dollar Spot Conditions

Since dollar spot thrives in damp, warm areas of the lawn, try to minimize these conditions.

  • Time irrigation to shorten the length of time your lawn may be damp. Watering early in the morning hours (before sunrise) will allow the sun to dry the water faster, minimizing the amount of time your lawn is wet.
  • Proper airflow is also important to reducing humidity, so removing unnecessary shrubbery and foliage, thereby increasing sunlight penetration, can help to keep air flowing.
