Patricia from Boise writes

elm seed beetles

We are besieged with elm seed beetles in Boise. Nothing seems to phase or kill them. Sprays of lemon detergent with a little oil of peppermint chases them for a few minutes then they reappear again. A few show up on fly strips but don't like to use them too much because they also trap bees & lacewings. They are very fond of the maples in my back yard and are showing up on roof since there's a large branch over a portion of it. HELP!!!

Answer:

We apologize, but we are unfamiliar with the elm seed beetle. We would suggest that you contact your local cooperative extension office to get the beetle properly identified.
