4 of 5 stars  Hard to find but worth it
By Jb in Billings, MT on 04/25/2013

Pre-emergent other than corn gluten is hard to find these days but it's worth it. We've used it for a few years now and it does a good job of keeping our neighbors' 10,000 dandilions out of our yard. Much better than weed-n-feed POST-emergent.

4 of 5 stars  Unknown Effectiveness
By Ron in La Quinta, CA on 02/15/2017

I purchased the pre-emergence weed control to combat spotted spurge because of the water restrictions in the Palm Springs CA area. Warning-the bag has no directions on what setting to set the spreader and the help desk has no idea what setting. Their recommended setting covered less than 2500 ft instead of 5000 ft. Let the buyer beware.

    Expert Response   Expert response:
Thank you for your feedback! We apologize for any confusion or inconvenience. Unfortunately, there are so many spreaders on the market that it is impossible for manufacturers to have a complete list of recommended settings. Also, keep in mind that different people walk at different paces. For these reasons, we highly recommend calibrating your spreader your needs. Otherwise, you should always start with the lowest setting on your spreader and adjust from there. You can view a helpful video about calibrating your spreader here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vXBjeVA3ao

5 of 5 stars  Fertilome Preemergent
By Sara in Fairfax Va on 09/05/2016

I use this product at my home in VA on my fescue and at my Dad's in GA on his Bermuda/centipede. It has saved me more hous in weeding than I can say. I apply it in VA in Early winter, spring, and sometimes summer. I used to have seas of chickweed, lespedeza, blossom weed, spurge, corn speedwell, dandelions- you name it. Not now. Tip- apply two strips on edges. They get the wear and that's the weak link. I did Dad's house in GA for the first time this year. This product has is the only ingredient that the extension site says stops chamberbitter. We will see! I am also hoping it helps with Carolina Geranium too. I will update this later to say. Shipping from this site was great. Prompt and well packed.

It's hard to review something like this when you've never tried it before and only time will tell if it works or not. But it was a great buy compared to just purchasing Gallery and it was easy to spread, so fingers crossed that it works like a charm! We'll see!

By Bruce in Kalispell, Montana on 11/15/2013

Can't say much about the product yet. First application was in spring (2013) so I haven't really given it a chance, but it does look promising. Will re-apply next spring so I will know more by mid summer (2014). Can say that the service at Do My Own Pest Control is quite fast. Had the product just a few days after ordering and now have enough on hand to last a couple years. Only gave three stars because I still don't know how well the product works. Service is 5 star.

QWhich is a better pre-emergeent herbicide between Ferti-Lome Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery and XL 2G?
I already plan to use Dimension (Pennington's) for crabgrass prevention.

AAs far as effectiveness, both the Ferti-Lome Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery and the XL 2G will give you exceptional results on broadleaf weed and some annual grass control. The Ferti-Lome Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery is my personal preference because of the great price. It's the most bang for your buck. However, to give you more of a precise answer we would need to know the weeds you are wanting to kill and where you plan on using the pre-emergent.

QWhat is Gallery? Does this product contain fertilizer?

A

Gallery is a brand name of a pre-emergent herbicide. Ferti-Lome Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery is not a fertilizer but is instead just a pre-emergent herbicide granule. If you are looking for an herbicide with a fertilizer you can check out our Weed and Feed page:

QReference to eliminating Chamber Bitter
Can applying Ferti-Lome Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery keep Chamber Bitter from growing in my Fescue lawn? I live in Raleigh, NC and would like to know if this will work.

AWe have spoken with the manufacturer of Ferti-Lome Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery and they have confirmed that it will work for Chamber Bitter but that is a very difficult weed to control.   The active ingredient Isoxaben is the only pre-emergent that is labeled to control it though.

QThe Local Extension Service recommends Fertilome Broadleaf Weed Control for Chamberbitter in ornamental beds.
Do you recommend applying to bare ground before mulching? Will it be effective applied in March, when Chamberbitter sprouts in May?

A

Yes, it is recommended Fertilome Broadlaf Weed Control with Gallery will work best when put below the mulch layer. Do not apply pre-emergence herbicides in beds where new plants will be installed, as plant root development may be inhibited.

Depending on the region you are in, March is usually a good time to apply pre-emergents. Because preemergence herbicides prevent seedlings from developing, they are an effective tool against annual weeds. However, they will not affect established weeds. Timing is critical. They must be applied prior to seed germination. Please check with the Local Extension office for exact time in your region that is good to apply pre-emergents.

QShould I wait until spring to apply Ferti-Lome Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery?

A

The time frame for pre-emergents like Ferti-Lome Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery†is typically March-May. We generally recommend putting this down when the soil temperature is at least 55 degrees Fahrenheit. QWhen should I apply Ferti-Lome Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery to treat for dandelions? Does it provide any post-emergent control?

A

Pre-emergent applications are generally done twice a year, sometimes up to 3 times a year in some regions, in late fall and early spring.† Application timing will vary from region to region, so it would be a good idea to contact your local cooperative extension office to find out the best times to apply in your area.† Ferti-Lome Broadleaf Weed Control with†Gallery only provides pre-emergent control.† It does not control established weeds. Existing weeds should be controlled with post-emergent herbicides. †

QWhich is more effective Turf Trust Weed Control or Ferti-Lome Weed Control?
I know both have Isoxaben 38% and Ferti-lome is better priced, but want to make sure one is not more effective overall on controlling (not just suppressing) chickweed, clover and some dandelion before I buy one of the products. I plan on using Dimension in mid spring for crabgrass control) thank you

A

We apologize but we do not carry any product under the name Turf Trust so cannot comment on it exactly. †We can say if has the same active ingredient as the†Ferti-Lome Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery†is should be comparable. †Be sure to use the higher rates listed for clover and chickweed to get the best results, also it will only control clover and dandelion from seed.

Can these two be applied at the same time? Would it be better to apply one then another to control both crabgrass and broadleaf weeds. I did not see dandelions on the Hi Yield label.

A

No, Hi-Yield Turf & Ornamental Weed and Grass Stopper and Ferti-Lome Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery cannot be used at the same time. We would recommend waiting at least a week between applications.

QWhen do you apply Ferti-lome Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery?
I'm in Tallahassee Florida and finally we have had some nights in the 60's. I read apply after 3 cool nights, but daytime is still close to 90. When do I do this, and how much water? This is for lawn spurs or whatever they are called. Parsley looking weed with NASTY spurs underneath. I purchased this about a month ago from you all, when you sent an email it was back in stock. Thank you in advance!

A

Ferti-Lome Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery is an herbicide for pre-emergent control of broadleaf weeds. It should be put in in late summer/ early fall before the weeds seeds begin to germinate.
