    Q
Can Gentrol IGR concentrate be diluted with other insecticides?
    A
Yes, Gentrol IGR concentrate can either be applied by itself in a gallon of water, or you can mix it directly with any other insecticide you happen to be spraying with.  The Gentrol IGR comes in 1 ounce vials, which is the exact amount you need to mix with each gallon of water or gallon of other insecticide.  1 ounce or 1 vial of Gentrol IGR per gallon of water.

    Q
If bed bugs walk over dried Gentrol IGR, does it work? Or does it have to be sprayed on a live bedbug?
Does it work with all roaches? If yes, which ones?
    A
Gentrol IGR does not have to be applied directly to bed bugs or roaches to work.  It has a residual that can last up to 4 months, so it can be picked up by bed bugs, roaches, drain flies and pantry pests long after it dries. It will work on all species of roaches.

    Q
can I spray gentrol on all the walls and ceilings in my apartment?
I have small kids and am worried once the Gentrol dries if the residual is bad for them if they touch the walls? Also I have pets, what happens if I spray the floors, will the residual affect my dogs?
    A
You should apply the Gentrol IGR as directed on the product label, directly into cracks and crevices around door frames, window frames, baseboards and under appliances. There is no need to spray the entire wall, ceiling or floor. All children should be out of the area during the application and they can safely return to the treated as soon as it has dried. The dried residual will not have any effect on people or pets even if they touch it. Also, by applying the product directly to cracks, crevices, voids and other inaccessible areas you will be limiting anyone's exposure to the product.

    Q
What do I do with any unused portion of the product after mixing?
I am trying to come up with a game plan for a roach problem and I am planning on mixing this with Demon WP. I am wondering if I do not use the entire gallon of solution can it be saved for a later date?
    A
Whenever you mix up a solution it needs to be used within 24-48 hours. Since both the Demon WP and Gentrol control other pests than just roaches, you can always spray the outside of the home with the remainder to control ants, spiders, millipedes and other various pests.

    Q
    Respraying over gentrol & temprid
I have a heavy infestation (to me anyway). I sprayed last week w/gentrol & temprid and plan to spray this week with just temprid. Will this weeks spray nullify the gentrol from last weeks spray?
    A
Due to the fact Gentrol has a long residual spraying Temprid once a week as directed will not void out the Gentrol.

    Q
Can you mix Gentrol IGR with Demon WP and Talstar in one mixture in a gallon?
    A
You can mix Gentrol with either Talstar P or with Demon WP. You should not mix Talstar P and Demon Wp together or it would be like doubling the dosage of either product and would make the application too strong which in turn would make treated surfaces somewhat repellent to insects. When a surface is repellent the insects avoid it and end up in other untreated areas. The idea is to get the insects to cross over the treated areas to eliminate them.

    Q
After spraying with Gentrol IGR for bed bugs, when can I re-enter the room?
    A
Typically, it takes about 30 minutes for the bed bug spray (including Gentrol IGR)  to dry.  Once it is dry, it is perfectly fine to re-enter the room again.  Most people will wait 1 hour just to be safe.

  • Asked by Jenny from Normal, Il

    Q
If you are spraying Gentrol IGR, what do you do with your cat?
Can a feline become ill due to exposure to this chemical?
    A
Your cat should be removed from the room where you are applying Gentrol IGR (or any other pesticide) and should not be allowed back into the room until the application has dried. While most cats will not become ill if exposed to Gentrol, some cats are more sensitive to chemicals than others which is why all pesticide product label instructions indicate removal of animals prior to the application. Be sure to read the Gentrol IGR product label for complete usage instructions.

    Q
When using Gentrol, how long can you leave it in the sprayer before you dispose of it?
    A
After you dilute Gentrol with water, it should be used within 24 hours. Also, you should not store pesticides in your sprayer as they will break down the rubber hose, seals and gaskets and could even cause damage to to the tank over time. Only mix what you can use at one time.

    Q
Is the Gentrol IGR Concentrate a repellent or non-repellent?
    A

The Gentrol IGR Concentrate is neither a repellent nor a non-repellent: it is an insect growth regulator. The Gentrol IGR Concentrate prevents stored product pest larvae from progressing to the pupal stage of development, so the larvae die before they become breeding adults and future infestations.

    Q
    Bed bugs/mopping/diatomaceous earth
Can or should I wet or dry mop after using your Gentrol IGR? Is it okay to also put down diatomaceous earth once your product has dried?
    A
Once Gentrol IGR is dry, it is safe to mop in your home. We would recommend using Gentrol IGR in conjunction with other products, such as Temprid SC. This will provide a residual and an insect growth regulator for the pests. You will use these every two weeks for bed bugs. We would also recommend treating your mattress and furniture with Bedlam Insecticide. You will spray this product in the seams and tufts where bed bugs reside. Diatomaceous Earth should be used inside the wall voids. This will dry out the bed bugs and prevent them from spreading. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Q
How does this product work when coming in contact with the insect?
I'm trying to figure how it works. For example if I spray and then a bug walks across the place where I sprayed once it's dried how does that effect and come in contact with the bug is it just through its feet? Also how long will the product stay there for?
    A
It does depend on the type of insect but in general the dried residual of Gentrol IGR will last for 14-120 days. Be sure to read the product label to see how often you should retreat for the pest you are targeting.

    Q
I have a really bad German roach infestation in my apartment I used gentrol mixed with demon wp how long
Will it take to see results. The roaches never seem to disappear its here and there. The most I have seen is about 5-6 in one day. They seem to crawl more when I cook smelly foods. It's very frustrating that I have not stop seeing them in almost 2 years.
    A
It can take multiple applications to eradicate roaches using Demon and Gentrol.  You would also want to incorparate a quick actinv bait like Maxforce Impact. This way they will be bringing the bait back home with them.

    Q
Will Gentrol IGR work with Advion roach gel bait?
I have a severe German Roach infestation. I've been researching Albion, and it looks very promising. I'm just wondering if it would make a difference if I used them together.
    A

Gentrol IGR would be an excellent option for use with Advion Roach Bait Gel. Remember that Gentrol IGR is just a growth regulator so it is very important to use an insecticide with this product as well, such as Temprid SC. The insecticide will kill the insects that come in contact with it. The Gentrol IGR will act as a birth control for the roaches. Advion Roach Bait Gel will be used inside of cabinets and drawers where you cannot spray. Be sure not to spray the bait because it will contaminate it and the roaches will not consume it.

Please check out our Roach Guide for tips on how to treat and prevent roaches.

  • Asked by Jerome from Milwaukee, Wi

    Q
Can Gentrol be used for roaches, bed bugs "alone" without a main pesticide?
    A

Gentrol IGR will not kill bedbugs or roaches. While you can use it alone we do not recommend you doing so. The bedbugs and roaches that are already mature at the time of the application will continue to mate and reproduce as the growth regulator will not stop this process. The IGR will only stop immature insects from reach sexual maturity and it is not 100% effective on any given generation. Using a growth regulator in conjucntion with an insecticde and a comprehensive elimination program would be recommended. You can learn more about roach and bedbug control by reading our Roach Treatment Guide and our Bedbug Treament Guide

    Q
How long does Gentrol take to get rid of roaches?
I mixed Suspend SC and Gentrol and sprayed every where seems like no big difference, do I have to wait out the German roaches life cycle?
    A
Gentrol IGR will not kill roaches, it only prevents them from reproducing. You should use roach baits and roach sprays, such as Suspend SC, in conjunction with the Gentrol Concentrate. If you use the recommended products together as advised you will start to see a reduction in roaches within a week or two. However, it may take a month or so so see full eradication.

    Q
    Will Gentrol make bedbugs worse?
I do not see the Gentrol in your kits for bed bugs. I have heard it may not work on them. Is that why you don't have it in your kits? I have heard it can make them worse? How long will the Gentrol that I sprayed be in effect for the bedbugs?
    A
There simply has not been enough time since the outbreak of bedbugs for proper studies to be done on the long term effect of Gentrol on bedbugs. There have been no studies published that support Gentrol making bedbug infestations worse and we have not had any reports to that effect either. Once Gentrol has been applied, it will be effective for bedbugs for about 2-4 weeks. We do not have Gentrol in our kits at this time because we feel that your money can be better spent on products that we know for sure will work.
