    Q
I have seen deformed roaches carying egg cases months after I have treated some areas..
Since this is a growth inhibitor, how is it mature deformed roaches have the capacity to reproduce? What happens to the nymphs that hatch from these egg cases or is it that the eggs do not hatch? A roach is a roach, deformed or not. Please, I'm confused!
    A
Gentrol Point Source Stations will cause the roaches to become deformed. It also will prompt the females to prematurely lay their eggs (the eggs will also be affected by the product). It sounds like the product is working and doing exactly what it should. If you need additional information on the product or roach control, please contact us at 866.581.7378.

    Q
What if my cats walk on areas where Gentrol Point Source may have landed then groom themselves?
I am using Gentrol with bait stations for an Oriental roach issue we are having. One of the places they have been seen is an area where my cats have their litter box. If my cats walk on the formula the Gentrol point disk emits, and then lick their paws, is this harmful? I don't see this addressed in the enclosed information.
    A
The tiny minute amounts of Gentrol the cats would pick up on their paws would not cause any issue whatsoever. According to the MSDS "Due to the unique nature of the product form, acute toxicity hazards are not anticipated". This means that unless the cats actually get a hold of the disc and eat the vial inside before it is crushed, there would be no concern that they would ingest enough product to cause any type of toxicity issues.

    Q
Our bathroom and kitchen share a wall so they are close. Should we use a Gentrol Point Source in both places?
Also, you are supposed to keep them at least 3ft away from food. Our kitchen is small so where can we place one? How long should we wait to come back in the house? Can we use one in the car for carpet beetles or will it be too concentrated? When you press it, does it immediately release into the air you breathe? I'm pregnant, so we really want to be safe.
    A
You should place a Gentrol Point Source disc in each room. For the kitchen area, you can use the sticky tabs included in the package and place the disc on the side or behind the fridge or place it to the side of the cabinets or pantry. You only need to keep the disc away from food prep areas not from stored food product. According to the manufacturer, there is almost no hazard from inhalation. There is no need to leave the house when using the Gentrol Point Source discs. Gentrol Point Source is labeled to be used in modes of transportation, but we have not heard of any one using it in a car. To get rid of the beetles in your car you should be able to thoroughly vacuum and spot spray a pyrethrin product such as 565 Plus into cracks and crevices.

    Q
Will constant air limit Gentrol Point Source ?
I sometimes open doors/windows for fresh air. Also have fans running. Will this limit the 75sf coverage area ?
    A
Gentrol Point Source works best by having some air movement. We recommend placing them up high so that the product can "flow" down over the given space. Occasional open windows or doors should not have a negative effect on the product.

    Q
What is the difference between using Gentrol Point Source and Gentrol Concentrate?
I have a residence and problem with roaches. The liquid is a better price and seems to be able to cover more areas-- but is it not as strong as the point source?
    A
The Gentrol Point Source and the Gentrol IGR concentrate are going to provide the same results  for roach control. The Gentrol Point Source are great for situations when spraying is not allowed and this formulation is also very convenient as there is no mixing or spraying required. The Gentrol Concentrate on the other hand is definitely more economical.

    Q
Does the Gentrol Point Source affect Carpet Beetle Adults or Larvae or both?
We are at the point in trying to get ahold of our infestation where adult beetles are emerging from prior larvae and soem adults have laid eggs and tiny larvae are emerging. Since these work for 90 days, I need to know WHEN to put them out. If they only work for the adult beetles, I may be too late.
    A
Yes. According to the manufacturer Gentrol Point Source is effective for carpet beetle larvae.  The active ingredient is a juvenile growth hormone mimic and more or less stunts the proper growth of the larvae. Activating Gentrol Point Source is as simple as squeezing the raised end of the plastic disc. This releases Gentrol IGR onto a filter paper. From there, it moves up to 75 square feet, damaging pests and preventing them from reproducing.

    Q
Is the coverage area of Gentrol Point Source stations the same as the radius?
The product information says it covers 75 square feet, that's the same as 75 ft radius, right? So, if you put it on the corner of the room you actually only get a quarter of the product working right?
    A

The radius is measured from the center to the edge of a circle. When finding out the area in which to use a Gentrol Point Source station, you need to figure out an area of 75 square feet. You can do that by measuring out an area of 7.5 feet by 10 feet and that's the area one station will cover.

    Q
Can you place the Gentrol Point Source on floor or higher up in cabinets
    A
Gentrol Point Source works best if placed up in higher areas. Like on the wall beside the fridge, etc.  Gentrol Point Source works, because it latches on to particles flying in the air and moves throught the area. One disc will treat 74 sq. feet.

    Q
How long does the Gentrol Point Source last? I've had them for a month, when should I get a new box?
    A
The Gentrol Point Source stations when unused will have a shelf life of at least a year or so. Once activated, each station will continue to give out the growth inhibiting vapor for 3 months before each station would need to be replaced.

    Q
Are Gentrol Point Sources safe in sleeping areas?
We have a variety carpet beetle infestation. And finding them in the kids room. Is it safe to put these discs under their bed? It doesn't give out any fumes that could be harmful to growing babies? Also it says it works for 75 sqf...that means a radius of 75 right? We can't put it in the corner of a room and expect it to work on a 75sqf room.
    A
Yes, Gentrol Point Sources are safe to place inside rooms with sleeping children. They are an insect growth regulator that stops the life cycle of pests.

    Q
I have a PCO who wants to use Gentrol Point Source to treat bedbugs. I read on here that it says its for roaches. Is this product effective on bedbugs or are they just trying to get my money?
    A

Gentrol Point Source is not labeled for treatment of bed bugs, it is only labeled to treat roaches and pantry pests.  However, we do sell the Gentrol IGR in the liquid form in all of our Bed Bug Kits and the liquid IGR is labeled for treatment of bed bugs.

    Q
Will Gentrol Point Source work under couches and end tables or does it have to be up higher?
I'm using to treat German Roaches. Thanks!
    A

Gentrol Point Source could be used under a couch if needed.  It spreads up to 75 square feet so is generally placed in areas of high activity.  Depending on the size of the treatment area, place 2-4 in the kitchen and 1-2 in each bathroom as these are the most common areas roaches are found.

  • Asked by Bob from Texas, Texas

    Q
How does the Gentrol Point Source disperse?
Is the hydroprene in the Gentrol Point Source disks dispersed via vapor pressure or do the bugs track it around the house? I like the safety and effectiveness of hydroprene, but I feel uneasy about having an IGR product aerosolized or constantly lingering as a vapor in my house.
    A

Gentrol Point Source after the capsule has been opened, it releases microscopic particles that actually fly through the air on particles that are normally flying around. It could be considered slow release. As these particles float through the air they land on the roach causing growth abnormalities to immature roaches.

    Q
Does Gentrol Point Source work for clothes moths?
My pest control company has been using Gentrol for my cloth moth infestation. I decided to cut out the middle man and save some money and buy Gentrol myself. Now I can't find anywhere on the label that Gentrol will work for clothes moths.
    A
According to the manufacturer, Gentrol Point Source will not work for cloth moth infestations. We do understand how there could have been some confusion. Clothes moths do in some cases fall under the "stored product pest" category and Gentrol is indeed labeled for stored product pests, but in this case the manufacturer did not include clothes moths in this category.

    Q
For a roach infestation in kitchen cabinets, is one Gentrol Point Station needed in each cabinet, or does one station penetrate all kitchen cabinets?
    A

Each Gentrol Point Source Station treats up to 75 square feet for 90 days. Please be aware this product is an insect growth regulator which contains a juvenile growth hormone mimic that retards the growth of certain insects.  Gentrol Point Source Stations will cause the roaches to become deformed. It also will prompt the females to prematurely lay their eggs (the eggs will also be affected by the product).  Gentrol Point Source should never be used to eliminate a roach population by itself.  Gentrol will not kill roaches...it only prevents them from reproducing.  You should use roach baits like the Advion Roach Bait Gel and roach sprays like the Cyzmic CS in conjunction with the Gentrol Point Source. Please take a moment to look at our Roach Control Kits.

    12/15/2010
    Q
How does Gentrol Point Source move up to 75 sq. ft? Why is it not listed for bed bugs?
Can I try it for no see-ums that are biting me?
    A
First, you must properly identify the insect you are trying to get rid of to know for sure if Gentrol will work for it. You can get a sample of the insect and go to your local cooperative extension office to request an insect identification. Gentrol Point Source has an active ingredient that is slightly more dense than air and actually is carried a small distance on the air because of this density. After the insect you are dealing with is properly identified, you must also make sure you are using the correct formulation of Gentrol (also available in a concentrated liquid and an aerosol)as the Point source is only labeled for select insects. Gentrol will not give you immediate relief. Gentrol works gradually over time to interrupt the insects breeding cycle.
