  • Asked by Mark from Evanston, Il

    Q
Is there a pre-emergent weed control that won't kill new grass seed?
What would you recommend for a small lawn that needs to be reseeded in early spring due to a grub infestation? We have bad crabgrass and dandelion issues around here (Chicago suburb). Also pets. Thank you
    A

Most pre-emergent herbicides should not be used at or near the time of seeding since they are designed to prevent seed germination. Per the product label for Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide, this product should be applied only to lawns and turfgrasses that are well established. The exception is that in newly established lawns of Kentucky Bluegrass, Perennial Ryegrass and/or Tall Fescue, you can use this product two weeks after the first sign of germination. A pre-emergent that can be applied at seeding is Tenacity Herbicide.

    Q
Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide Placement shortly before rain?
The product says that it works best when watered in with 0.5" of rain, but it also says it should not be applied if rain is predicted within 24 hours (environmental hazard). Can you clarify that? Can I irrigate within an hour of placement? Are they worried about large downpours within 24 hours? Mainly, what is the concern if it rains within 24 hours of placement if the product needs to be watered in?
    A
Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide should be irrigated within 24 hours of application. We do not recommend to apply before a rain, because you have no idea how heavy that rain will be.

What is the best pre-emergent for sandburs?

  • Asked by Linda from Hurst, Tx

    Q
What is the setting on a Scott broadcast rotary spreader for Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide?
I am new at this and I want to make sure it is the correct setting
    A

Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide label does not list your spreader setting. If you need to use 3lbs of product per 1,00 sq ft you would add 3 lb of product to spreader, start with a medium setting, then apply product to a 20 x 50 ft area (1,000 sq ft).  If you have product left, your setting is too low.  If you run out of product, your setting is too high.  Typically if you walk at a normal pace and set the spreader at the middle setting, that is usually the right amount per 1000 square feet.

  • Asked by Gary from Smithtown, Ny

    Q
I'm looking for a crabgrass pre-emergent for my new lawn.
I have a new lawn that I had seeded last year and the grass is growing well. I live on Long Island New York. Previously I had very bad crabgrass problem. I am hoping to stop the crabgrass this year. Can you please recommend a pre-emergent for my lawn and when I should apply it?
    A
Almost every pre-emergent can only be used on well established lawns only. Using pre-emergents on lawns that are not well established could lead to unfavorable results. If you feel your lawn is well established you can use Hi Yield Turf and Ornamental with Dimension to control crabgrass both pre-emergently and post-emergently (for up to 4 weeks).

    Q
    Will this control dandelion?
    A

No, Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide is not labeled to control dandelions.

Dimension 2EW is labeled for dandelions pre-emergently. This has more of the active ingredient which is why it is likely labeled for dandelions and the other product is not.

Core Aeration before application of Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide will not pose any issues. Most importantly you would not want to aerate after pre-emerg application as it could break down the chemical barrier.

  • Asked by Bob from Ft Worth Tx
    09/12/2013
    Q
Will product prevent germination of bermuda grass seed
Established st augustine/ Tiff 419 lawn
    A
Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide is labeled for use on both St augustine and bermuda grass so it will not work to stop the germination of Bemuda.
Unfortunately Bermuda grass is so closely related to St. Augustine grass that there is nothing that will remove Bermuda from St. Augustine and not hurt the Bermuda as well.  In your situation it is recommended to spot treat the Bermuda with Round Up and kill it directly, and then replant St. Augustine in those areas. We do carry some professional round up products:  http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/nonselective-herbicides-c-188_408.html
