Randy from Franklinton, Louisiana writes

Home was professionally treated several years ago. The company is no longer in business-suggestions?

I have a concrete slab home that had multiple additions, i.e. multiple pours over a long period of time. Had an infestation before and hired out the treatment, and they guaranteed against loss as long as i paid my yearly contract. They have left the country, not to be found. I have been recently advised to treat using bait stations for a cost of $900.00 with a $200 yearly renewal. I have handled and applied all kinds of chemicals including pesticides and think i could do this myself relatively easily. What do you suggest? BTW, subterreanean termites, NOT formosan.

Answer:

It is ultimately your decision as to whether you decide to use bait stations or do a liquid barrier treatment. Although a liquid treatment is generally much more complete and effective long-term, it can be quite labor-intensive and time-consuming to drill all around a slab to do this treatment. You can review what is involved in a liquid treatment on our page How to Do a Termite Treatment, and you can review the differences in this treatment versus bait systems here. We can also discuss your situation further over the phone at 866-581-7378 M-F 9a-5p EST. Regarding the company on the run, we are sorry that you were abandoned! You could do some investigating through your state regulatory agency, usually the Cooperative Extension.
