How can I kill johnsongrass in my daylilies?

I have several hundred daylilies set out in a fence row along a driveway. Johnson grass has started to appear in the last two years. I need a herbicide that will kill it without killing the daylilies. Thanks

Answer:

You can use a grass killer such as Gordons Ornamec Over-The-Top Grass Herbicide to kill johnsongrass around established daylilies. Ornamec will control Annual Johnsongrass seedlings (sorghum halepense) when 2 to 8 inches tall, before tillering or heading. It will control perennial rhizome johnsongrass that is 8 to 18 inches tall and before booted stage, per the product label. You may need multiple applications for more mature plants. We also suggest using a pre-emergent herbicide in the future for the best control of Jonhsongrass and many other difficult weeds. Prodiamine 65 WDG is safe to use around most turf and ornamentals.
