How to avoid paying annual maintenance fee after subterranean termite treatment?

In 2008, I found subterranean termites in the basement. My house was only 12 years old! I had orange oil treatment done which was a major expense. They told me it should last about 7 years, but warranty was only 2 years. Their annual termite protection plan costs $450. One of the technicians left your flyer and that's how I found you! What should I do to keep my house, termite and other pests free from now on? I heard that my area (city, county) is TOTALLY infested with termites. I have an unfinished basement, two stories of living spaces(1900 sq), attic, and garage with finished walls.

Answer:

If you really want to protect your home against subterranean termites, than you should do an in ground treatment with a non-repellent termiticide.  To do this, you should read our How To Do A Termite Treatment article which explains step by step how to treat your house as if a professional company would.  If you do this correctly, you should not need to re-treat for 7 years and you will not need to pay a company a yearly renewal fee.
