Indoor use

I want to use the timbor on a 130 yr old barn beam that I will convert to a mantle. I plan on spraying it with timbor, letting it dry, sanding lightly, then sealing it with Tung oil. Is the Timbor safe to have in a home? The mantle will be over a working fireplace. Is heat a problem?

Answer:

Yes, Timbor is meant to be used on indoor areas that will not be exposed to the elements. Timbor should only be applied for eradicating fungus off of wood and for protecting new wood from future infestation. Heat should not be a problem once the product is dried and sealed within the wood. Be aware that Timbor does only absorb 1/4 of an inch into the wood. If you are looking for something to penetrate the wood and last for the lifetime of the wood, we would recommend Boracare. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
