Jane from New York writes

Is Drione Dust safe to use around pet birds?

I have two budgies and a grackle, as well as a cat. The birds cages are just outside the room being treated, and the cat has free roam. Is this product safe for use around pet birds? How long will they need to be removed from the apartment for treatment?

Answer:

You should always keep Drione Dust and other insecticides out of reach of pets, especially birds. We would not recommend using Drione Dust directly in or on bird cages or resting areas. If you are using the dust in a neighboring room as directed on the product label, then you would not need to remove the birds from the home. Be sure to use an appropriate duster such as a Bellow Hand Duster to apply insecticide dust and avoid unnecessary exposure of people and animals to the insecticide. Using a duster will get the dust directly into cracks and crevices and help you to avoid over-application. Any excess or visible dust should be cleaned up with a moist paper towel before pets re-enter the area.
