I haven't been able to find a nest outside, do they come from the ground? What do carp ants do in the winter?
Seeing carpenter ants outside is common and you will notice the trailing location around the exterior of the structure. They are the most active at night after sunset and prior to sunrise (10pm-4am). We highly recommend that you treat even without knowing where the nesting location is. We carry a Carpenter Ant Kit #2 that offers a liquid spray for the exterior of the structure and two types of bait. All three products can be transferred to the colonies on your property. There are also some non-chemical alternations that can be performed around the outside of your home that will aide in the eradication.
