How Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel Works
Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel uses a high moisture content to attract carpenter ants. Provides fast control in 3-5 days. Maxforce gel uses a delayed action kill so the bait is passed throughout the carpenter ant colony. Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel provides for the sweet diet of carpenter ants and therefore works well when used in conjunction with a protein-based product such as Advance 375A Carpenter Ant Bait.
The active ingredient in Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel, Fipronil, is in the Phenylpyrazole family of insecticides and is used in many products when a delayed kill is desired, such as ant and roach baits. Fipronil disrupts the insect central nervous system, causing hyperexcitation of nerves and muscles. Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel is tough on ants, yet gentle on people, pets, and the environment. The high moisture content of the bait also increases its attractiveness to target ants.
Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel Target Pests
Carpenter Ants and other common ant species
PESTS CONTROLLED WITH MAXFORCE CARPENTER ANT BAIT GEL: Carpenter ants and other ants, including Argentine, Pharaoh, Pavement, Honey, Acrobat, Odorous House, Thief, Big-Headed, Cornfield, and Field
Target Uses of Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel
Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel can be used whenever listed ants are present and foraging for sweets. Bait is simple and convenient to use, and it is ideal in situations where sprays may not be desired. Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel lets the ants take the product to the colony for you, avoiding the guessing game of finding a nest. It is recommended to use a protein bait such as Advance Carpenter Ant Bait in conjunction with a gel bait.
ACTIVE INGREDIENT: Fipronil 0.001%
Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel Application Instructions
Apply dabs of gel in cracks and crevices, and anywhere you see carpenter ants foraging and/or entering the structure. Can be placed in corners of cabinets and drawers, around pipes, etc. Do not place gel where insecticides have been sprayed. This will cause the gel to be unattractive to the ants. Carpenter ants are most active between 10pm-4am. It may be necessary to look for activity during these times to know where to effectively place Maxforce gel. Always read the label!
To apply, first shake the gel tube vigorously. Due to the high-moisture content, it is normal during storage for the syringe to contain a couple of grams of liquid. Simply shake the syringe before use to help even out the consistency. (During the summer months the gel may become more watery than normal, in which case you should place the tube in a refrigerator for 24 hours.)
Next, remove the cap and depress the plunger. If necessary, during the first few placements simply pull back slightly on the plunger to prevent over-application.
Small pea sized placements should be made near ant trails or near areas where ants have been observed to forage.
Usually 3 placements will be sufficient for an average sized room with a light to moderate infestation, use more for larger areas or heavy infestations. Bait will remain effective for up to two weeks.
***NOTE-Do not disturb the natural behavior of trailing ants or foraging ants. Placements should be made NEAR the ants not on them or in the middle of the trail. By disrupting their normal behavior, bait avoidance may occur.***
Each 27 gram tube of Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel yields at least 27 bait placements.
Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel is for use in the following areas:
Commercial, industrial and residential areas, including food and feed areas of food and feed handling establishments
See above for general application instructions. Apply bait directly into crack and crevices and where ants may travel, in areas such as between different elements of construction, openings leading into voids and hollow spaces, around plumbing pipes, cabinets, sinks, and stoves. Do not apply bait to areas where food or utensils may become contaminated or areas that are routinely washed, such as food preparation surfaces. Do not apply in areas where temperatures exceed 120 degrees F as bait may run.
See above for general application instructions. Place gel outdoors into, on or adjacent to structures where you see ants, next to ant trails and suspected areas of ant activity. Likely locations for ants and gel placements are points of entry into structures and areas with potential water damage including: eaves, soffits, weep holes, where wires and pipes come into the building structure, trees, stumps, roots, wood decks, fences, planter boxes, woodpiles, landscaping, and railroad ties. Extreme heat or cold, direct sunlight and water may reduce the residual effectiveness. Apply Gel outdoors into bait stations such as Ant Café Refillable Bait Stations to protect bait from dust, rain, and sunlight. Inspect placements and reapply as needed. The gel will remain attractive to ants for up to two weeks. Inspect gel placements and reapply as needed. Reapply in the same area if bait is gone or in a different location if no ant activity is evident. You will notice fewer ants in days.
Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel Features
*High moisture content makes bait more attractive.
*Formulation is highly attractive to sweet-feeding ants.
*Labeled specifically for carpenter ants and for a wide variety of household ants.
*Bait is easy and convenient to apply with enclosed plunger or a bait gun.
*Bait remaining in an opened tube is viable for up to one year if stored properly.
*Pet safe when used as directed.
*Extremely low toxicity to people and pets.
*Store out of direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. When exposed to higher temperatures (above 80 degrees F) for extended periods of time, the gel will change color and lose effectiveness.
*It is more effective to use smaller, more frequent bait placements, rather than large chunks or a long line of gel.
*Bait will dry up quickly if used on porous surfaces such as paper, concrete, or cardboard. Use a less porous surface such as bait plate stations, if needed.
*Do not use bait in the same areas as residual repellent sprays or where there may be residue from harsh cleaning products.
*Do not spray products on top of bait, as this may cause the bait to be less palatable.
*Avoid bait placements in areas exposed to air currents, such as in front of vents, as this will cause the bait to dry out more quickly.
*It is always recommended to use a protein bait, such as Maxforce Complete Granular Bait, in conjunction with a sweet bait such as Maxforce FC Ant Bait Gel.

You won't be disappointed
By Ryan on 08/09/2007
This stuff ROCKS!! I killed like 5-10 ants a DAY by hand until I freaked and bought the Maxforce Carpenter Ant gel tube. Carpenter ants are super-finicky, but Thursday I started applying it. They sucked it right out of the tube (must be tasty!). Within a day ants were walking around like they were drunk. I kept feeding them the bait and within 3 days queen ants were walking around drunk and dying. And now this is day 7, I havent seen any ants today, except the ones I poisoned outside (die ants, DIE!). This stuff has been a savior. It cost $500 for an exterminator. I bought the granules too, as well as some junk from Home Depot. It helped, but MAXFORCE did the trick. You won't be disappointed.

Worked great; highly recommended
By Jim in Worcester MA area on 05/26/2010
My wife and I just bought our "dream house," only to discover a major carpenter ant infestation (which our pest inspector didn't detect). They swarmed on the first warm day; were all over our upstairs, in our infant and toddler's rooms, traveling through AC ducts. I ordered the Maxforce Gel Bait, along with Drione Dust, and Suspend SC. After reading some of the "how to" info associated with this site, and watching some YouTube videos, I did a little "hunting" at 2:00 AM, and found the ants' "trail." There were literally hundreds, if not thousands, of ants going between my house and the nearby woods. I tracked them between a rotting pine log, and a gap under my wood siding. The ant activity died down the next day, but picked up again to full strength by 10:00 PM the next night. That's when I started feeding them the Maxforce gel. In total, I feed them 2 tubes in one night. I put quarter-sized drops every 5-7 inches, on the rocks along the path. (I made sure my cats and dog were kept inside.) The ants LOVED it. It was amazing to me how they swarmed the drops. Each drop would get about 20-30 ants forming a circle around it, eating up the bait. I had to go out every couple of hours to give them more (they ate the drops clean). The next night, I tried to feed them some more, but they were not nearly as interested. Wonder why? Surely they can't "learn" that quickly. In any case, two days later, my wife notices that 50 or so dead ants had fallen out of the AC vent in our bedroom ceiling. I cut into the dead log, and found hundreds of dead ants. There were dead ants along the "trail." Two days later, no more ant activity has been observed. Now I'm going to use the Drione dust in the cracks/voids, and spray Suspend SC around my house/foundation. BTW - I was super impressed with the customer service and support at DoMyOwnPestControl.com - it was definitely a pleasure doing business with these folks.

Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel
By Bob in Stamford, CT on 05/28/2010
I purchased the Maxforce on May 18, 2010. Put the gel in many different places where the carpenter ants were traveling and watched them everyday for five days (5-10 ants at a time). The ants would not touch the gel. They would go near it and go right around. Not happy at all with product. Had to give it one star, would not allow 0.
Ants are very picky eaters. If the ants walk by the gel in this situation, it means that they were not in the mood this week for a sweet sugar bait, they were in the mood for more of a protein bait. This is why we made our Carpenter Ant Kit #1, which comes with this Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait as well as the Advance Carpenter Granular bait. The Advance bait is a protein based bait. It is always better to give the ants an option, so if they are not in the mood for the sugar, you have the granule available which is a protein. Also, even though the ants went by it this week, they may be looking for sugar next week. Sometimes with ants you have to give it time.

An efficient bait.
By Kathy on 04/16/2007
I just received my order yesterday. This morning I decided to put out the Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel along a beam that I have seen the ants use as a 'trail'. I know they are more active in the evening/night, but wanted to get it out there. There were two ants scouting around when I put it out at about 10:00 AM. Literally 10-15 minutes later there were about 20 ants at the bait. An hour later there were at least a hundred ants, and 2-3 different types of workers! I was amazed as it was daytime and only about 47 degrees! Talk about an efficient bait. I placed some of the advance carpenter bait granules near the place, and closer to where I suspect a nest. I guess I'll just sit back and wait. If they work as good as they attract, we ought to be ant free in a short while! Thanks for your great product offering that's not in stores around here.

It definitely works
By Scott in Pittsburgh, PA on 07/01/2009
I fooled around with sprays outside and the granules. I had carpenter ants on my deck outside and they were coming inside and built a nest in a wall. All the other poisons just slow them down, but they always come back. I put a few drops of Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel outside and within minutes they were all eating it. Now I just have to wait and see if it kills them. So far, so good. If you have carpenter ants, don't even waste your money on anything else. Nothing else is going to do the job.
Carepnter ants are gone!
By Rae in Denver, CO on 09/23/2017
I noticed a huge reduction in the number of ants in the first week. Now the entire population of both colonies seem to be gone. I appreciate how quickly this product worked.
By John in Des Plaines, IL on 09/09/2017
I used this product along with Advance Carpenter Ant Bait(Granules). The first 2 days the ants were all over the gel and other ants were taking the granules back to the nest. I noticed less ant activity on day 3. I saw only 2 ants. After day 3 I have not seen any ants and it is day 8. I had a professional service trying to kill the ants for the last 3 years. Use these 2 products and read the labels. Do not interfere with their direct path to the nest. THIS STUFF WORKS!!!
Works as advertised

We have a Hemlock framed cabin which is approaching its 60th birthday and the combination of the Gel and Advance crystals have done the job we needed. Applied both as directed so the sweet as well as savory attracted and dispatched the pests regardless of their preference.
Very easy to use, but don't know how effective it is
By Sanford in Bellingham, WA on 09/01/2017
The applicator syringe makes baiting the tray very easy. I use with the dry bait and the combination seems quite effective. I don't know how effective the gel would be on its own. With both baits, the carpenter ants have been almost entirely eliminated in just two weeks. Will keep the traps in place and loaded to make sure the colony is destroyed.
By Barbara in Glenwood Landing on 08/30/2017
Since I have been using the black ant bait I have NOT seen a single black ant. I paid hundreds of dollars to an exterminator and it had temporary results. Your product has seemed to resolved the problem. I will continue to use it and hopefully will continue to not have a black ant problem. Thank you!!
By Dan in Lauderdale on 08/26/2017
Used this along with Advance Carpenter Ant Bait. I put both near the carpenter ant nest. Ants were on both of these right away and the ants were all gone within 2 days. Works great.
works so far

Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait worked in 2 days!
By Cheryl in Highland, MI on 08/10/2017
Had carpenter ants in my birch tree and used another product which didn't work. Bought this gel and drew a circle around each tree trunk so the ants had to run into it. As soon as I applied the gel the ants immediately started eating it. The second day I counted maybe 5-10 ants on the tree. Day 3 and to-date, no ants. It has been over 2 weeks and still no ants. Wonderful product that's easy, quick acting and effective. Plus, you can apply the gel higher up on the tree which is safer for children and pets.

Ask a Question
QWhat is the difference between: Maxforce FC Ant Bait Gel and Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel
Maxforce FC Ant Bait Gel VS. Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel, they both have the same active ingredient. so what is the difference between the 2?
AThe Maxforce FC Carpenter Ant Bait Gel has a different bait matrix than the Maxforce FC Ant bait gel to make it more appealing to carpenter ants. The manufacturer felt it was necessary to make a separate product specifically for carpenter ants because this species of ant can be so picky.
QThe MaxForce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel I received is a dark brown color. Is this correct?
I followed the directions and refrigerated for 24+ hours prior to use.
AAccording to the manufacturer, the MaxForce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel can vary in color from amber to dark brown depending on the batch. Be sure to shake the tube well so that the gel packets will evenly disburse throughout the liquid.
QIs the Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel safe to use in a room that a toddler plays in?
I find the most ants in my sons playroom. He is 13 months old. Is the Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel safe to use in that room if he can't get to the bait directly?
AAbsolutely. Gel baits are preferred in situations where children are involved such as schools or day cares because it has a very low toxicity and it can be placed out of reach. If the bait is placed out of reach then there will be no issues with your baby being in the room.
QDoes the Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel have a contact toxicity at later date?
I have ants in a bedroom wall (just above the top wood frame). If this gel is applied to that area, what problems might occur (ex: toxicity to a person in the future) when handling the wood to clean that area, putting up curtains, etc? Is there a time frame in which it becomes inactive (like sprays do)? Also, food is eaten in that room does the gel pose any health threat?
AMaxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel will not pose any threat to food or people eating the food in a room where the gel has been applied. Simply contacting a small dab of the gel should not pose any type of health risk at all. If you would like to limit any contact or exposure, you can place the bait into a bait plate station instead of out in the open area on a wall.

QI have carpenter ants big time. They are on every floor of my home. How can I use baits with Suspend?
I have drenched areas and seen 1000s die in each spot, it's like detective work. Traced one trail over 200 yards down the street to a creek, one from my doug fir pine tree. They were climbing up and going across a branch and into attic. My nests in my home seem to be on one wall but on every floor, now that Suspend has been sprayed into walls and such, where do I put these gel bait and Advance granules to be best served. I read all your testimonials and ?'s and I have them all beat on the infestation magnitude. I first spotted them 5 years ago and treated a little but they beat me.
AWe recommend that you use Termidor SC for the carpenter ants infestation instead of using the Suspend SC. Suspend SC works great to kill the ants that make direct contact with treated surfaces but it does not get back to the ants at the main colony. Termidor is unique because ants not directly exposed to the Termidor-treated area will be controlled as they come into contact with affected ants. This Transfer Effect means you'll see its effects on ants in one to three days, and most species will be controlled within the first week following the treatment. You can use the Advance Carpenter Ant Bait Granules and the Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel directly in cracks and crevices indoors to help get rid of the ants, and you can sprinkle the granules outside where ever you have noticed activity. If you decide to keep treating with the Suspend SC, you must make sure you are not applying the baits in the same exact areas where you have sprayed the Suspend SC. This would contaminate the bait and the ants would avoid it. Be sure to trim back any tree branches or bushes that are touching or hanging over your home to avoid having ants walking around treated areas.
QCan I use Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel on Carpenter bees?
do you think it may be both ant & bees?
A No, Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel cannot be used to treat carpenter bees as it is only labeled for carpenter ants and other listed ants.

QWhat are the directions for assembling Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel applicator?
A The cap that comes on the tube of Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel is removed (twisting off the syringe) for application and then you can place back when finished and store in a cool, dry place (away from extreme temperatures). It should be applied once every two weeks (cleaning up previous bait placements). The plastic plunger is applied in the back of the tube to disperse the product from the syringe. QHow do I remove the tip on Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel tubes?
A To apply the Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel, first gently unscrew the solid black tip of the tube you would like to use. Replace this tip with one of the clear, reusable tips included with your order. Use either a bait gun or the included plastic plunger to gently expel the gel from the tube, similar to using a syringe. (You may need to pull back gently on the plunger to prevent over-application.) We recommend shaking the tube vigorously before application due to the high moisture content in this bait.

QWill Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait work for regular ants?
Will this product work on regular small ants as well? If I applied Talstar, can I not use this?
A Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel is specially formulated for carpenter ants. We would recommend using Maxforce FC Ant Bait Gel for any other type of ant you are treating for. We would not recommend any products, such as Talstar P, in areas where there is bait. It will contaminate the bait so that the ants will not consume it. Please see our Ant Pest Guide for additional information and tips about treating for ants inside and outside your home.

QWhat is the shelf life of Maxforce carpenter ant bait gel
AMaxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel can be stored for up to two years at room temperature if they are unopened. Once the bait is opened, it needs to be used within 1 year. After 1 year, the gel will become stale and ineffective.
04/29/2013 Marty from Chesterland, Ohio
QIs it normal to still see carpenter ants over a week after treatment of Maxforce Gel?
I used the max force gel in traps and they really took to it, but now I have not seen them in the traps. However, I still have some ants. Does it take over a week for the gel to spread to the colony, or is it not working? I also used some of the granules in a couple traps with the gel. About eight traps total, three with both gel and granules and five with just gel. I also sprayed the perimeter with the liquid I ordered from your company. Is it time to call a pro??
AIt may take longer than a week to eradicate the ants. The process of transferring the bait around and throughout the colony sometimes can take a while because there may be more than one queen that needs to be killed. We recommend applying the bait in areas you have not sprayed. The insecticide could possibly deter the ants from the bait.

QHow toxic is the Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bail Gel?
Do I need to keep my child out of the room for a certain time with the ant baits. Do I need to use special equipment while handling this?
AMaxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel is in a gel formulation which means that it is a not an airborne product and no one is required to leave the area being treated for any length of time. Be sure to follow the Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel product label and apply the bait gel directly into cracks and crevices or place it in a bait station to avoid accidental ingestion by children or non-target animals. This product comes in a syringe tube and will at no time require you to handle the product directly, so special equipment is not needed.

QMaxforce carpenter ant outside - in a covered container?
I live in NY, so of course many of the more effective carpenter ant controls are not allowed here. I ordered "Maxforce" from you guys which seems to be a good solution -- but at least one of the ant colonies I have is under my driveway outside my house. I plan on making my own bait traps out of plastic containers with lids, upside down and with entrance doors cut out for the ants to get to the pesticide. Do you think that would be a good idea, and keep the Maxforce from drying out too quickly?
AUsing the Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel in a bait station is a good plan. This will help protect the bait from the elements but still keep it available to the ants.
