Merit Granular (by Bayer) is the longest lasting broad-spectrum grub control product on the market. Both curative and preventative, Merit Granules holds a ten-year record of 90% effectiveness on virtually every species of turf and ornamental pests. Merit even improves the quality of your turf. Merit 0.5 G is for broadcast application on and around turfgrass, ornamentals, trees, shrubs, flowers, groundcovers, and in and around commercial or residential buildings. Apply Merit 0.5 G uniformly over area being treated with normally used granular application equipment. Both drop-type and rotary-type spreaders may be used. Avoid using a spreader which would apply the product in narrow bands. For optimum control, product application should be followed by mechanical incorporation, irrigation, or rainfall, to help move the active ingredient into the soil.
MERIT is most effective when applied prior to, or just after, egg lay. In most cases, adult emergence occurs in early summer, often after significant rainfall or irrigation, followed by mating and egg laying. This usually continues for four to six weeks. Under normal circumstances, Merit will provide residual white grub control for four months or longer in turf.
Grub control that works
By Jim on 04/04/2011
I have spent hundreds of dollars on different grub control products each year with the same result: grubs. Last year I discovered the 0.5 G Merit and thought that the extra strength might get it done. After years of frustration, this product worked as advertised.

This stuff works
By Doug on 09/09/2012
I've been fighting with white grubs destroying my marathon 2 lawn for several years and had tried several products before, but they barely slowed down the spread. After one application of the Merit Granules the spread of the dead areas has ceased and visible recovery has begun. If you have white grubs, this stuff works.

best product ever
By David on 09/18/2010
last year i awoke to find my yard over run by crows. During the day i would run outside and chase them away but they would return within the hour. The crows were destorying my lawn. So i called a professional lawn service and they promise to treat and end the problem. The day after the lawn was sprayed the crows continued tearing up my lawn. Even after a month later. At that point i searched the internet and found a product called" crowbegone". A cd with strange bird calls but after a month of use it to was a failure. The crows had won so i thought. Thats when i came across your wed site and purchase Merit G. In two words "It Works ". After chasing away the crows i applied Merit G and watered it in real good that evening. Within the first week i observed fewer crows on my lawn. By the second week the crows would land on the lawn and walk around looking for their grub meal but the kitchen was closed. After a month only one or two crows would check out the lawn and then walk away. Problem solved. Now my lawn is beautiful again. THANKS.

We do not know the setting for that spreader and we are not sure exactly what to set it on. However, almost all fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, etc have treatments in amounts of so much product per 1000 square feet. You can calibrate by marking off a 1000 square foot (10 x 100) area and placing 1.4 pounds of any type of product of similar granule size or of the Merit itself in the spreader. Start with a low setting and start walking your marked off area at a normal pace. You can adjust as you go and find the basic setting for you to apply the product over a 1000 square feet. You may also contact Scott's directly for help with calibration and recommended settings for your specific application.

I'm using a Scott's ProEdgeguard broadcast spreader (setting dial 2-15). Product is Merit 0.5 granules.
We do not know the setting for that spreader and we are not sure exactly what to set it on. However, almost all fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, etc have treatments in amounts of so much product per 1000 square feet. So if you can figure out what your walking speed is then you know anytime you apply any product that calls for so much of it per 1000 square feet, you always set your spreader on this setting. You can calibrate this by marking off a 1000 square foot (10 x 100) area and placing 1.4 pounds of any type of product of similar granule size, or of the merit itself in the spreader. Start with a low setting and start walking your marked off area at a normal pace. You can adjust as you go and find the basic setting for you to apply the product over a 1000 square feet. The 60 pounds per acre equates to 1.4 pounds per 1000 square feet. Or, you can call Bayer, the manufacturer, and they may be able to tell you what setting you should have it on. You can reach them at (800) 331-2867.

Unfortunately we do not have the spreader settings for that specific combo and the manufacturer does not list that spreader on their bag. Due to the thousands of granules on the market and just as many different types of spreaders, you will want to calibrate your spreader to the product you are using and its application rates.
Please take a moment to view our How to Calibrate your Spreader Video for more information.

I have a Scott's Speedy Green 2000 spreader., Also what granules would you recommend for prevention of fleas, ticks, and roaches?
Merit Granules are a great choice for grubs, just be sure you are applying before egg hatch so that the active ingredient has time to work systemically. There are some spreaders listed on the product label, however yours is not one of them. We usually recommend starting around one setting below the middle setting and then adjusting as needed.
For your more general pest prevention, Talstar Xtra Granules would be a great choice.

Seems to me that it should be a year round program in AZ. Neighbors do not generally treat their entire yards...only around the prime target plants for the grubs.

Merit works great. I've noticed several people have asked what setting for the Scott Edguard Broadcast spreader and are advised to contact Bayer. I have contacted Bayer today and they confirmed setting #3 for 1.4 lbs for 1,000 sq/ft. Would be helpful to others if you would post this in the Q&A.
I have a Scotts Speedy Green spreader. Even though it's actually not shown on the label, what if I used it for this product?

No, Merit 0.5 G Insecticide Granules should not be used in areas of the yard where fruit trees are present. Bayer Advanced Fruit, Citrus and Vegetable Insect Control can be used around listed fruit trees on the label.
