Merit Insecticide Granules
  • Alternate Image 1

Merit Granular (by Bayer) is the longest lasting broad-spectrum grub control product on the market. Both curative and preventative, Merit Granules are effectivene on virtually every species of turf and ornamental pests. Merit even improves the quality of your turf. Merit 0.5 G is for broadcast application on and around turfgrass, ornamentals, trees, shrubs, flowers, groundcovers, and in and around commercial or residential buildings. Apply Merit 0.5 G uniformly over area being treated with normally used granular application equipment. Both drop-type and rotary-type spreaders may be used. Avoid using a spreader which would apply the product in narrow bands. For optimum control, product application should be followed by mechanical incorporation, irrigation, or rainfall, to help move the active ingredient into the soil.

Tips for Use

MERIT is most effective when applied prior to, or just after, egg lay. In most cases, adult emergence occurs in early summer, often after significant rainfall or irrigation, followed by mating and egg laying. This usually continues for four to six weeks. Under normal circumstances, Merit will provide residual white grub control for four months or longer in turf.

5 of 5 stars  Grub control that works
By Jim in Chelsea, AL on 04/04/2011
    Verified Purchase

I have spent hundreds of dollars on different grub control products each year with the same result: grubs. Last year I discovered the 0.5 G Merit and thought that the extra strength might get it done. After years of frustration, this product worked as advertised.

By Doug in Huntington Beach CA on 09/09/2012

I've been fighting with white grubs destroying my marathon 2 lawn for several years and had tried several products before, but they barely slowed down the spread. After one application of the Merit Granules the spread of the dead areas has ceased and visible recovery has begun. If you have white grubs, this stuff works.

5 of 5 stars  best product ever
By David in pembroke pines,fl. on 09/18/2010
    Verified Purchase

last year i awoke to find my yard over run by crows. During the day i would run outside and chase them away but they would return within the hour. The crows were destorying my lawn. So i called a professional lawn service and they promise to treat and end the problem. The day after the lawn was sprayed the crows continued tearing up my lawn. Even after a month later. At that point i searched the internet and found a product called" crowbegone". A cd with strange bird calls but after a month of use it to was a failure. The crows had won so i thought. Thats when i came across your wed site and purchase Merit G. In two words "It Works ". After chasing away the crows i applied Merit G and watered it in real good that evening. Within the first week i observed fewer crows on my lawn. By the second week the crows would land on the lawn and walk around looking for their grub meal but the kitchen was closed. After a month only one or two crows would check out the lawn and then walk away. Problem solved. Now my lawn is beautiful again. THANKS.

Using Merit to control my Iris borers. Have used it for one year now, and the borers are very few and far between. After another year I am hoping for complete control, and No more borers. Maybe that's too much to ask, but this stuff is making great inroads into my infestations. ALSO...your customer service and speedy delivery are WONDERFUL ! Thank you.

Recieved my product quickly as usual. Always great order to receipt date service. The ultimate performance review for the grub treatment will need more time. This is the second treatment this year. Have never seen so many Japanese beetles before. Yrd looks terrible with many brown spots.

By Danley in Lewis Center, OH on 07/15/2017

Extremely happy with DoMyOwn, received two bags of Merit within a couple of days. My yard requires two applications beginning and later in summer, else the critters rip up the grass/turf going after the grubs and other beasties. With this service how can one be anything but 5+ star happy.

5 of 5 stars  Works like a charm
By Jane in Cedar Grove, Indiana on 07/12/2017

This is our second year purchase of Merit because we missed a corner of the yard last summer. We are treating 2 1/2 acres and before last summer, we had a significant infestation of grubs and moles. It is very obvious where we applied the Merit and where we missed. Over all the lawn is grub free except a small patch far from the house and near the road. Follow the directions for your location and it does work like a charm.

QHow safe is Merit Granules around pets?
8000 sq ft yard, when will it be safe for my 2 small dogs to go back on the lawn after I treat it?

AYour pets should be out of the yard while you are applying the Merit Granules and while you are watering them in. Your pets can return to the area after the surface of the grass is dry, usually after about 5-6 hours.

QWhat should I use for grubs on my lawn?
Merit granular, Bayer or your suggestion? I am ready to attack!

AMerit Granule is actually manufactured by Bayer and is always our top recommendation for grub control. For best results, make application prior to egg hatch. To find out when grub egg hatch normally occurs in your area you should contact your local cooperative extension office.

QWhat happens if you apply Merit more than once a year?
i keep seeing that you should only apply it once a year. But what does it do if it is applied twice? I can't find any information on repercussions. does it harm the soil or the grass?

AYou are able to apply Merit more than once a year but you cannot apply more than 80lbs of Merit per acre per year. While it will not harm the soil or the grass the EPA does limit how much product you are able to use in a given area per year.

QWhen you apply the Merit granules, does the chemical stay in the soil and protect grass planted later on?
when you apply the Merit granules for example in late June, does the chemical stay in the soil such that if you plant grass seed a couple months later in Sept, will the new grass have the systemic protection as well? or would the new grass be unprotected?

AThe Merit that is applied will be in the soil for some time but it is trans-located through the plants that are in currently in place. Newly planted grass should be retreated.

QCan Merit Insecticide Granules be applied any time of the year?
I live in Minnesota. Is it okay to apply a grub killer and other insect killer to my lawn at the current time? I am trying to prevent and potentially kill anything in my yard. It is now July 9th is it out to apply at this time?

A

Merit Insecticide Granules†can be applied at any time, but if you are looking to control white grubs then†you want to apply it several weeks before egg match of the target pest. Usually this application needs to be made in late Spring, usually sometime between May and late June. QCan I use Merit in August to kill grub eggs?
To kill grubs, I used Dylox in the Spring. Read that Merit should be used around August to kill eggs. Does this sound correct?

A

Merit Insecticide Granules†should be appled just before or after egg hatch and will not actually kill the eggs, only the young that feed on the roots. †The best time will vary depending on the region you are in. You should contact local†cooperative extension office†to determine the best timing for grubs in your region.

QWill Talstar P hurt beneficial microbes in the soil?
I just resoded my yard and amended beneficials to the soil to help with rooting but I'm having problems with grub worms and was recommended this product.

A

Microbes don't have the same system as insects do so Talstar P would not hurt microbes in the soil. Although for Grubs we would recommend using Merit Insecticide Granules instead. Please read over our Grub Treatment Guide for further tips and information.
