Natural Catch Fruit Fly Traps
By Kate in Mount Horeb, WI on 07/30/2010
We had a very bad fruit fly problem and placed the traps out. Day one the flies just hang out by the trap. Day two some went inside the trap. A week later most gone. Two weeks later 3-4 flies still hanging around. I was hoping the flies would be drawn to the trap and be done with them in a few days. Not the case.
The fruit fly traps will only catch adult fruit flies that are flying around. The traps alone will not get rid of fruit flies unless you find the source. If fruit flies are breeding from a piece of food that fell behind the stove and you do not get rid or find the food, you will continue to see the fruit flies in your kitchen or wherever they are. The traps only take care of the adults; you have to still eliminate the breeding site.

I have used this product before and ran out last year. I tried to make my own traps and had minimal if any luck with those. I bought this product again, stuck one in the corner and the fruit flies were gone within two days. Hassle free product. Definitely worth buying!!

This is my second package of traps. I use them all summer and then I am free of fruit flies for the entire summer.

I had another trap that did not seem to eliminate the fruit fly problem (it was old but unused and I am not sure if they expire). I put one of these out and they are all gone. Either way they work or my husband's cleaning up the kitchen when he came home (he works out of town) resolved the issue--but I think it was the trap and only one cleared up the issue. I have only seen one fruit fly in like two weeks and I used to see a lot.

No mess, no fuss fruit fly traps. A bit pricey, but worth the convenience. Unobtrusive on the counters and they work as well as the make-it-yourself traps.

It works but a lot of the flies go in and come out...so it catches some, but not all. I finally had to spray all rooms and then purchase a UV light trap with sticky paper behind it...and that worked amazingly!

Great product and it looks professional you can make this product yourself but as a pest control professional and a small business owner my customers want my work to look professional and work well to solve their problem. This product covers both these areas.

QHow big is each Natural Catch Plus Fruit Fly Trap?
I was wondering what the size is of each trap, since that will help me determine where I can place them.
AThe triangular Natural Catch Trap is 3 inch L x 3 inch L x 3 inch L and about 1 1/2 inch tall.
QI need to control fruit flies in a restaurant, what would be the best product to use?
AThe main goal with fruit flies is to find the breeding site. In restaurants, fruit flies almost always breed from the syrup and other food and drink that falls behind the bar areas and where the soda machines and soda guns are. We carry traps to catch the adult flies that are flying around, the best seller being our Natural Catch Plus Fruit Fly Traps. As far as the source and breeding sites, you should wash all of the areas underneath the bar and soda areas to clean any syrup or other sticky areas and places where food could have failed behind or under machines It is also a good idea to apply a product like Invade Hot Shot which is a foam that will eat away any organic matter that fruit flies breed in.

QI have these bugs that look like a fruit fly, but I never keep fruit on my counter.
I was told that they could come from my sink. I started using ammonia to clean the disposal, but they didn't go away. What should I do to get rid of them? They are such a bother constantly flying in my face.
A The first thing we recommend you do is get a positive identification on the insect you are trying to eliminate. Many of the tiny flying insects get misidentified by home or business owners which leads to ineffective treatment programs. You can contact your local cooperative extension office and request to speak to the entomologist on staff. The entomologist will instruct you on how to obtain a sample of the insect and send it to them. If, as you thought it is indeed fruit flies then you MUST find the source of the infestation. Look under stoves, refrigerators, counters and the like for spilled fruit juices or fruits. Performing a thorough sanitation should help eliminate the source of the infestation.
