This kit contains items that can be shipped to and used anywhere in the US. FenvaStar EcoCap is a concentrated liquid that is diluted with water and applied to areas where bees have been observed or are likely to cause damage. The Bellow Hand Duster should be used to apply the D-Fense Deltamethrin Dust directly into existing bee holes. This hand duster features a 6.5 inch extension tip for easy dust application into carpenter bee galleries, making this important step accurate and fast. Finally, this kit includes 20 x Trebor plugs to seal existing holes.

For the most efficient Carpenter Bee Treatment, you should first Inspect structures for damage and live bees. See our Carpenter Bee Identification guide to be sure that you are treating for the correct pest.

Details

The California/New York Carpenter Bee Control Kit offers a complete solution for treating carpenter bees around your home. Both FenvaStar EcoCap and Evergreen Pyrethrum Dust start working immediately after application, but they also offer residual protection from new bees entering the area. Using Trebor Plugs to seal up existing holes after you have used your insecticides also helps to Prevent carpenter bee damage in subsequent years. Be sure to Inspect wooden structures thoroughly for carpenter bee nests and bee activity before applying insecticides.

**While carpenter bees are solitary bees and do not attack in groups, it is possible that you can be stung while performing a treatment. If you are sensitive to bee stings or bee stings are intolerable, we recommend that you hire a professional pest control operator to control carpenter bees. If you are not allergic but are worried about bee stings, you may want to consider purchasing and wearing a bee suit.**

How to Apply the California/New York Carpenter Bee Kit

STEP 1 - SPRAY - FenvaStar EcoCap Insecticide

FenvaStar EcoCap is a water-based insecticide concentrate that contains the active ingredient Esfenvalerate, killing both carpenter bees that are contacted directly with the spray and bees and other insect pests that come into contact with areas where the FenvaStar has been applied (FenvaStar does not provide an immediate kill of contacted insects). FenvaStar EcoCap must be diluted with water and applied with a sprayer such as the Chapin 1 gallon pump sprayer.

*Wear gloves when mixing and handling pesticides, such as Nitrile Chemical Resistant Gloves.

*To mix the FenvaStar, first shake the concentrate well. Fill your sprayer tank with 1/3 - 1/2 of the desired volume of water, then add the desired amount of FenvaStar concentrate. Agitate the tank before you finish filling the sprayer with water, then agitate again before your application.

*Use 1-2 oz. of concentrate per gallon of water. Use the higher rate for initial application and for severe infestations; use the lower rate for prevention and maintenance.

*Begin spraying areas where carpenter bees have been active the past Spring and/or Fall, spraying prior to new activity or as soon as activity is noticed. Spray wooden areas that are susceptible to carpenter bee infestations including eaves, siding, fascia boards, railings, posts, fencing, and landscape fixtures. You may want to start on areas that receive lots of direct sunlight, at the apex of rooflines, and in areas where there are overhangs.

*Applying a spray band to areas where bees are likely to excavate new nests will help to prevent new damage.

*To reduce the likelihood of stings, treat in the early morning or late evening when bees are less active.

*Spray once a month as needed while carpenter bees are active.

*Do not apply FenvaStar EcoCap more than once every 14 days.

*FenvaStar EcoCap is versatile, aiding in control of many common crawling and flying insects, both outdoors and inside. See the product label for complete instructions.

*Keep pets and other people out of the treatment area until the application is dry, usually about an hour.

*Use diluted solution within 24 hours of mixing. Agitate spray solution if your application is interrupted.

*Store FenvaStar EcoCap concentrate in a temperate area, out of direct sunlight, and out of reach of children or pets.

*To treat areas up to 30 feet high, consider using a Chapin Slide Pump Sprayer to apply FenvaStar EcoCap.

STEP 2 - DUST - D-Fense Deltamethrin Dust and Bellow Hand Duster

D-Fense Deltamethrin Dust is a water-resistant insecticide that can last up to 8 months when applied properly. Using insecticide dust directly in existing carpenter bee nests gives you the best chances of getting rid of carpenter bees that are already in the area. The formulation of the dry, powdery dust is even more accessible to carpenter bees since the tiny hairs on their bodies will easily pick up the dust. The Bellow Hand Duster has a large capacity as well as a 6.5 inch extension tip that makes dusting fast and easy.

*After your spray application has dried, you can apply the insecticide dust.

*Using insecticide dust can be very messy, so be sure to wear gloves such as Nitrile Chemical Resistant Gloves.

*To fill the Bellow Hand Duster, gently unscrew the top to allow space for filling the duster.

*Gently unscrew the top of the D-Fense Deltamethrin Dust, then tap dust into the bellow duster, filling the compartment no more than halfway to allow space for the dust to move inside the duster.

*You may want to add a few small objects such as coins or pebbles to prevent dust from clumping.

*Replace the cap by gently following the threads until the top is fastened securely.

*To apply dust, simply direct the extension tip into the application area, then squeeze the bellow to release the insecticide.

*Before relaxing your grip on the duster, pull it away from the treatment area to prevent sucking up moisture or debris that may clog the duster or cause dust to clump.

*Apply dust directly into existing carpenter bee damage. One puff of dust in each hole is plenty of dust for the bees to pick up a lethal amount of active ingredients.

*Apply dust late in the evening to make sure you are contacting the existing female carpenter bees when they are less likely to sting.

*Dust applications also help to eliminate the immature stage of the developing carpenter bee, reducing future populations.

*Dust applications generally only need to be made once per season.

*Store dust and duster in a dry, temperate area out of reach of children and pets.

STEP 3 - SEAL DAMAGE - Trebor plugs

*Wait at least 14 days after spraying and dusting before sealing up existing holes. This allows time for the female bees to return to the nest, come into contact with the application, and spread the dust throughout the nest.

*Plugging holes too quickly can result in bees creating new routes into the nest before coming into contact with the insecticides, resulting in more damage.

*The included Trebor plugs fit perfectly into existing carpenter bee holes so that bees do not return to the same site the following year.

*Holes also can be sealed with wood patch or similar materials.

Great product. Find the nest and it kills very fast.

    By Tim on 05/11/2018

I had two or three carpenter bees flying around my patio under my soffit. I found two nests and sprayed and killed 7 the first day. I counted 6 the following week and found 3 more dead. I looked at my soffit after dark and found 12 perfectly drilled holes and sprayed. Within an hour i swept up another 19 plus 8 giant queen bees. This stuff works well and I didn't use the powder portion because I don't want my dogs to ingest it.

Q
How do I know where to strategically place bait traps for carpenter ants?

We received our carpenter ant bait kit and I'm wondering where the best place to put the bait traps is since most of the ants we are seeing have been crawling on the walls and ceiling of the second floor. We do not have access to the attic.

A

The bait stations in the New York Carpenter Bee Control Kit should be placed where you notice carpenter ant activity.

It is important to avoid purposefully putting the bait in the middle of an ant trail or on to the ants themselves. This will make the ants avoid the bait and make the baiting ineffective. Instead, put the bait near ant activity or next to ant trails. To help keep ant bait fresh and off of surfaces we recommend placing the bait in the bait plate stations provided in the kit. Some examples of places where the bait can be placed are:

  • In kitchen cabinets and on counter tops.
  • Behind, next to, and under the stove.
  • Near sinks or drains
  • Around pipes, cords, and cables that come out of the wall.
  • Behind and under bathroom fixtures.
  • Around the medicine cabinet and vanity.
  • Around window or door frames

You should check the bait placements once a week and replenish as needed until ant activity has ceased.
