I had a lot of crickets in my basement. I ordered Niban and put some in the basement in several areas and sprinkled some around the house outside. I have seen a lot less crickets after a few days. I will put some in my attic also, we have silverfish there.

I Hate Cave Crickets!
By Jl on 10/14/2012
I've been having a problem with cave crickets for the past three years. Cave crickets are very big, very aggressive insects that look like aliens. They walk, jump (usually right at me) and love dark spaces. If that's not enough, they are cannibal carnivores too. Prior to this invasion three years ago, I'd never heard of or seen them before. An expensive exterminator did not solve the cricket problem, though he did educate me about them. He used a "bomb" to get rid of them, which required a good deal of preparation ahead of time and cleaning after the fact. Within 29 days of treatment the crickets were back. The warranty was for 30 days. He did not bomb again, but sprinkled granules of something he said I couldn't buy anywhere myself. Whatever the stuff was, it worked. Instead of immediately calling the exterminator, I did a little research the second year, when the crickets returned. That's when I came across Niban. Surprise, surprise, it looked just like the granules the exterminator had used, and was the product that came up the most in my search results. I bought the Niban, treated the perimeter and possible entry points in my house and the crickets disappeared. This is the third year of the crickets and I kicked myself for not pre-treating at the end of summer. I could have prevented seeing the one that got in the house. They tend to pop up in early autumn, as the weather cools and dampens here in PA. I will not make that mistake again next year. I plan on keeping a supply of Niban on hand as long as I live in this house. It works with all kinds of insects, ants (which seem to have followed the crickets in), spiders, etc. I've noticed a difference in the weeks since I initially treated the exterior perimeter of the house. I haven't seen an ant, a cricket or anything else. I do re-apply after heavy winds and/or rain, but there's enough in the bottle to last me at least several months. Do My Own Pest Control is always fast and affordable. I plan on using them for any pest control needs I may have in the future.

The end of Cave Crickets
By Steve on 11/17/2020
We had a bad infestation of cave crickets in our basement and crawl spaces that were finding their way into our living spaces. I was killing up to 4 per night. I bought the Niban bag in August and spread it around the perimeter of the house, in the basement and crawl spaces. I've seen 2 since then. I did apply the Niban 3x since august, but this stuff works... massive improvement.

Niban
By John on 12/10/2021
Had house crickets for several months . Caught them in sticky traps for a time but then I kept seeing more. So I had purchased crabgrass killer " which worked beautifully" from Do My Own before , so I went and found the Niban , put it in the basement in plastic cover lids and about 2 weeks later nothing in fresh traps. Stuff worked great. Would recommend.

Outside Use
By Tammy on 07/15/2022
I live in a home surrounded by woods on two sides. I like to mulch with pine straw (I have lots of pine trees) but am aware that bugs like to hide under the straw. I also use cardboard to suppress weeds around shrubbery before I put down the pine straw, which bugs also appreciate, so...the Niban granular helps a great deal in controlling insects (like roaches) rather than my yard being a healthy environment for them.

Doesn't Work on Cave Crickets
By Joelle on 11/05/2022
I was excited to purchase this product b/c our pest control guy once put down some granular stuff and we didn't see even ONE cricket after that, but for some reason after that 1st time, he would never use it again. My husband put this down around the outside of our house, and the crawl spaces, about a month ago. Still had crickets in the house. He put more down last week. Still have 2 or 3 crickets in the family room every single day since.....including last night as I was watching TV and noticed a freakin' cricket climbing up my shirt!! Fun times. So, 2 applications - no reduction in crickets. This product doesn't work.
Expert response:
Thank you for taking the time to review this product. Please keep in mind that effective cricket management includes a combination of both chemical and non-chemical methods, with baiting just being one part of effective cricket control. Additionally, these products only provide a certain level of control, and if you have a very large infestation of crickets, the product may be working but can only control the population to a certain extent. You can review the recommend steps treatment below, and let us know if we can further assist.
Step 1) Non-Chemical Methods for Cricket Control
Harborage Removal- Crickets most often make homes in cracks and crevices provided by large piles of clutter.
Limit outdoor harborages by removing piles of leaves, firewood, or other items close to the structure. Also cut back heavy ground cover such as ivy.
Remove indoor harborages by eliminating clutter in storage areas.
Exclusion- Limit entry points to keep crickets out.
All doors should be fitted with tight-fitting weather-stripping.
Other potential entry points should be screened or caulked (includes vents, window frames, plumbing and electrical entrances)
Moisture Elimination- House crickets and camel crickets especially like to breed in damp basements or crawlspaces.
Install vapor barriers and additional foundation vents in crawlspaces as needed.
Make a damp basement less welcoming to crickets with the use of a humidifier.
Outdoor Lighting- Most cricket species (including house, field, and ground) are readily attracted by exterior building lights and lit windows.
Swap outdoor lights for yellow "bug light" bulbs or sodium vapor lamps which are less attractive to crickets and other insects
In commercial settings, move outdoor lighting away from the building
Step 2) Chemical (Pesticide) Methods for Cricket Control
Residual Perimeter Treatment- The first and most important chemical application you should make is to create a residual barrier around the perimeter of your home or building using one of the following liquid residual products. For easiest application, follow the mixing instructions on the product label and apply product using a 1 Gallon Sprayer along baseboards, around doorways, beneath stairways, in crawlspaces, underneath appliances, and other areas where crickets are found. Apply outdoors creating a 3-foot wide band of chemical along the structure foundation - Talstar P Professional Insecticide
Crack & Crevice Treatment- Treat wall voids, crawlspaces, and other cracks and crevices where crickets reside with a Hand Duster and Delta Dust Insecticide. The dust is easily puffed underneath baseboards for an added barrier of protection. Delta Dust remains effective up to 8 months.
Outdoor Granular Treatment- Applying a band of granular pesticides around the outside perimeter of the home can help keep crickets out. Granulars may also be applied as a broadcast application in grass and mulch for mole cricket control. Indoors, spread granulars in basements, attics, or crawlspaces.
NiBan Granular Bait - 5lb. bag - apply in 2-foot wide band around the outside of a structure for control of crickets
Talstar PL Granules - apply in late April to early May for optimum seasonal control of mole crickets
Contact Treatment- Non-residual contact sprays are great for spot treatments of indoor pests when they interfere with daily living. Just grab a contact aerosol and get rid of annoying crickets on the spot - CB-80 Aerosol
Trapping- Trapper LTD Mouse/Insect Glue Boards are sticky traps that can be placed in corners, along walls where pests travel, and on both sides of doors where crickets and other pests crawl in under weather-stripping. Sticky traps are only a small part of control and will not eliminate an infestation, but can greatly reduce populations when used when smartly placed.

By K on 08/09/2017
I used to live on an anthill. A pest control service kept them out of the house but they covered both front and back patios in lines that pavement ants make. I switched contractors and the new contractor used Niban I found out accidentally. All the ants are gone. All they did was sprinkle Niban on the perimeter of the house. I'm sold.
Niban Granular Bait Working?
By Larry on 12/05/2011
I continue to see cave crickets in my basement. However, they're not as fast as the used to be. I'm now able to stomp on them more often. They don't seem to be as fast. It may be due to them eating the bait. It's getting cold here in the NY area and I wonder if that has something to do with the slow down of their metabolism. Overall I'm glad I purchased the product because I'm seeing less of them.

This is my fourth (4th) purchase in the last couple of years. I am a homeowner and cringe when a "professional" comes to do me a service! No more though...............I do it myself! I have been so pleased with your service and the prompt receipt of my order that I have began recommending your service to other friends of mine. Please keep up the good work - there's not many left like you anymore!!! JOHN in NC (on the ocean)

Works Well
By Nick on 11/13/2020
The product works very well and lasts a long time. The only issue I have that caused me to take away a star is the fact that it's very visible and very messy. It's not very nice to look at with all the product spread around and if you step on it you bring it everywhere. With that being said, it does work very well and if you're using it in an area that has no foot traffic, then it's perfect.
Good product
