    Q
What is the correct way to apply Orcon Beneficial Nematodes to the lawn?
I want to apply these to my lawn. Do I wet them first and then just "sprinkle" them in my wet lawn?
    A

Orcon Beneficial Nematodes  may be released by spraying with water, mixing with mulch and applying directly to the soil or potting mix, or injecting into burrows. They may be used any time of year, as long as the ground is not frozen. Do not release in direct sunlight, as this will kill them.

There are 3 ways to apply the Beneficial Nematodes (BN). Find your pest on the Product Label and then use the recommended treatment number.

#1 TOP DRESSING: Mix the entire contents of the container with a gallon of cold water. Stir well and let stand for ½ hour. Stir again and add 5 to 6 quarts of vermiculite or peat moss or sandy humus. Apply directly to affected areas. For new plants or transplants, apply around roots. Apply after sundown because sunlight will kill the BN. Water thoroughly after application because BN travel best in moisture.

#2 SPRAYING: Mix the entire contents of the container with ½ to 1 gallon cold water, stir well and let stand for ½ hour. Water the area to be treated before application. Use a watering can, hose sprayer, or pump sprayer. Always use the coarsest or highest rate setting to reduce damage to the BN. Stir the mixture again and pour into the sprayer, filtering out the carrier as you go (Use a kitchen strainer or a piece of window screen.) Add the left over carrier to your soil. Always agitate the water while spraying and before pouring because the BN sink to the bottom. Apply after sundown because sunlight will kill the BN. Water thoroughly after application because BN travel best in moisture.

#3 INJECTION: Mix the entire contents of the container with ½ gallon cold water. Stir well and let stand for ½ hour. Strain out the carrier (use a kitchen strainer or a piece of window screen), use the carrier in the soil, and let stand for another ½ hour. This allows most of the BN to sink to the bottom. Pour away the top water, saving the last pint. Use an eye dropper or squeeze bottle to inject about a tablespoon of liquid into the burrow. Seal the hole if possible.

    Q
How can I tell how old the Orcon Beneficial Nematode product is that I purchased from my local garden center?
Since you can't see them, I'm concerned about whether or not the Nemetodes are actually living or not.
    A

Per the manufacturer, the Orcon Beneficial Nematodes are fresh packed before shipment. There is a date code under the lid of the box that states the date it was packaged. Aside from this, the nematodes have a 3 month shelf life at room temperature and 1 year shelf life in a fridge.

    Q
Can you just poor the water mix when using Orcon Beneficial Nematodes on top of the lawn in several different areas?
    A

Depending on what pest you are using the Orcon Beneficial Nematodes to treat for yes, you can apply directly to the lawn. However, you would want to spray it on a lawn application and not just poor it. Also the nematodes must be applied after sundown beause the sunlight will destroy them. When doing a lawn you want to be sure to water the soil thoroughly after the application because the Nematodes travel best in soil with a high moisture content.

    Q
How long does it take for Orcon Beneficial Nematodes to work?
    A

The time frame to physically see results with Orcon Beneficial Nematodes is 2-6 weeks. The nematodes only attack bugs with a grub-like larval stage in the soil, so that is the time frame for a majority of adult bugs to die off on their own. Once the larvae is gone, there will not be any adults in the future.

    Q
Can I apply Beneficial Nematodes before or after applying Imidacloprid
    A

Imidacloprid products would do no harm due to the fact that this active ingredient remarkably only targets the central nervous system of insects. Overall it seems there should be no reason that the nematodes would be affected whatsoever. Since imidacloprid is made to imitate nicotine in plants and nematodes are compatible with Nicotine Sulfite. So there should be no problem/restriction in the timing of application before after using the Beneficial Nematodes.

    Q
Does Orcon Beneficial Nematodes (7 million nematodes) (GC-R7M) kill mites?
    A

There is no information on the label to specify that Orcon Beneficial Nematodes (7 million nematodes) (GC-R7M) is used to treat for mites. We advise to contact your local cooperative extension to get a proper pest identification on what type of pest you are targetting. Onslaught is a great option to use to treat indoors and outdoors for a fast knockdown. It is very improtant to read the label and follow the instructions.
