    Q
If Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth is used before rain, will it be useless?
    A
Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth can be washed away if it is applied in open areas and it rains outdoors. Most folks choose to apply Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth directly in cracks and crevices around doors, windows, vents, places where cables, pipes and wire enter through the structure rather than all over the ground. This keeps the product protected and it keeps the product where pests are known to try and gain entrance into your home.

    Q
Does this brand of diatomaceous earth also kill bed bugs?
    A
Yes. Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth will kill bedbugs. Diatomaceous Earth should not be the only product used in the fight against bed bugs as it does not kill quick enough.  For best results, use Bedlam or Bedlam Plus in addition to the dust product.

You want to stick with applications to, cracks and crevices; behind and beneath appliances, cabinets, and garbage areas; around sewer pipes, drains, foundations, and windows; in attics and basements; on patios; along baseboards; under carpeting; in and around pet bedding and sleeping quarters. Q
Who is the expert answering these posts?
With all due respect, the answers to most of these concerns are the exact opposite of hundeds of sites that have tested DE in laboratories. They found the effects on humans and pets to be OK. Bedbugs can be gone and ingestion is OK to a degree. I see that this responder always gives an alternative product that they sell. What I suggest for those who have questionable concerns is to visit diamaceousearth.com. It has a Veterinarian on site and every question is answered without a biased sales pitch. If this post is not published, I have multiple others to post it. Not to slander My Own Pest Control ... but to merely viewers to read what is said, and make a sensible judgement call of their own. I have 11780 views on one of my sites, I believe that the Silicon level is 80-85%, according to every study I viewed. I found no distinction between "for food or not for food" from over 50 articles.
    A
We have a team of experts that answer our thousands of Q&A posts at DoMyOwnPestControl. Regarding DE or any other product, we must recommend that products be used according to the product labels for safety and legality. The product label is what is legally approved for use, and that is what we must recommend for both the safety of our customers and the integrity of our company. We are not independent researchers or scientists in a laboratory and cannot make claims or recommendations that are not in accordance with the approved product labels. We hope you understand our policy and practice regarding this matter.

    Q
Can Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth be mixed with water and sprayed on?
    A
The Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth label does not give instructions for mixing with water so we would not advise of this use.  It is a dust that is applied  directly in cracks and crevices around doors, windows, vents, places where cables, pipes and wire enter through the structure rather than all over the ground. This keeps the product protected and it keeps the product where pests are known to try and gain entrance into your home.

  • Asked by Jim from Etna, Ca
    10/31/2016
    Q
Will Organic Diatomaceous Earth work on Spider Mites and Russet Mites on veggie and ornamental plants?
And will the powder adhere to both top and bottom of the leaves?
    A

Organic Diatomaceous Earth and does not have specific labeling for mites such as spider or russet mites. DE is a dry powder and will be removed with rain or watering on treated plants. While the dust could potentially kill insects contacted with the dust, it can take many days for insects to die from diatomaceous earth, so it is likely that you would not get the results you desire. Monterey Fruit Tree Spray Plus is a popular product for spider mites and similar insects on edible plants. Avid is one of our most popular miticides for ornamentals.

    Q
Can you use this product directly on an animal?
I happen to have a flea frenzy in my house at the moment. I'm solving the problem house wise but animal wise there's still a couple here and there and they don't seem to be going away, even with flea treatments. I was wondering if this product can be used on an animal specifically a cat to get rid of fleas?
    A
St. Gabriel Organic INSECT DUST - Diatomaceous Earth is a FOOD GRADE product but it is not labeled to be applied to pets.  We do several other products that can be used on cats.  We offer products like Petcor and Prefurred Plus for cats. Petcor Flea Spray contains Precor IGR, an insect growth regulator that targets fleas in the egg and larval stages of development.
