How NyGuard Plus Works

NyGuard Plus Flea and Tick Premise Spray is a residual aerosol that combines an adulticide, insect growth regulator, and patented odor neutralizer for advanced, convenient, and ready-to-use control of listed pests. The adulticide Sumithrin – a synthetic pyrethroid that attacks insects’ central nervous system -- provides quick knockdown of target pests by contact, while the insect growth regulator Nylar inhibits development of immature stages of fleas and ticks. Plus, NyGuard continues to prevent re-infestation for up to 7 months after application. (NyGuard Plus also contains a synergist to increase efficacy of the adulticide.)

Remember that proper cleaning before and during flea treatments will greatly impact the results achieved while using NyGuard Plus.  It is imperative to vacuum thoroughly before application, and every day or every other day after application for at least the first 14 days of treatment.

NyGuard Plus Target Pests

Fleas, ticks, flea eggs and larvae. Cockroaches, dust mites, carpet beetles, and lice.

Target Uses of NyGuard Plus

NyGuard Plus is a residual aerosol insecticide, insect growth regulator, and odor neutralizer for use indoors in residential and commercial areas. NyGuard Plus has advantages over older premise sprays, including a new spray nozzle that won’t drip and cause you to waste product, an expanded label for a more versatile product, and the inclusion of an odor neutralizer that even defeats pet odors. NyGuard Plus is ideal for treating smaller or contained areas, spot treatments, or when the convenience of an all-in-one, ready-to-use product is desired. NyGuard Plus can also be used as a crack and crevice spray for listed pests such as cockroaches.

Application Instructions

For best results before any carpet/surface treatment, vacuum thoroughly before spraying and immediately dispose of vacuum bag in outside trash. Before treatment, SHAKE WELL and make a test application to surfaces to be treated in an inconspicuous place.

Fleas & Ticks:

Hold can 2 or 3 feet from surfaces to be treated. Turn container upside down and point valve toward surface to be sprayed. Be sure to apply uniformly using a sweeping motion to carpets, rugs, flooring, floors, drapes and all surfaces of upholstered furniture including under cushions. Avoid over wetting furniture and carpeting. A fine mist or spray applied uniformly is all that is necessary to kill fleas and ticks. Be sure to treat pet bedding, as this is a primary hiding place for fleas, ticks, and their eggs. No need to remove pet bedding after treatment. DO NOT TREAT PETS. Use a registered flea control product on your pets in conjunction with this treatment.

Cockroaches:

Spray into hiding places such as cracks, crevices, behind sinks, cabinets, along baseboards and floors, around drains and plumbing. Directly contact as many cockroaches as possible.

Dust Mites:

Spray with a sweeping motion to surfaces where mites congregate such as mattresses, box springs, headboard, floors, carpeting, and baseboard. Spray surfaces until damp. Apply on mattresses as a spot treatment to mattress seams, edges, buttons, and tufts of bed only. Do not use directly on pillows, bed linens, or cloths. Do not saturate the mattress and do not treat entire surface area of mattress. Allow mattress to dry thoroughly before replacing pillows and/or bed linens.

Carpet Beetles:

Apply with a sweeping motion as a surface spray to carpet, rugs, closets, baseboards, upholstered furniture, and around edges of carpet.

Lice:

Spray only surfaces that cannot be laundered or dry-cleaned including mattresses and upholstered furniture.

Each 17 oz. can of NyGuard Plus Flea and Tick Premise Spray treats up to 2000 square feet. Keep in mind that most flea treatments will require at least one follow up treatment.

NyGuard Plus is for use in the following areas:

For indoor use in homes, hotels, offices, hospitals, apartments, schools, dorms, boats, ships, trains, trucks, warehouses, veterinary clinics, and other commercial buildings.

Indoors

See above for application directions. When treating for active flea infestations, it is critical to vacuum all areas to be treated before and after application. It is also recommended to use a product labeled for use on pets in conjunction with this treatments.

Remove pets, birds, and cover fish aquariums and ornamental fish ponds before spraying, and turn aquarium systems off.

Fleas may appear for up to two weeks after treatment. This is the pupal window – when younger stages of fleas may still emerge – and the residual activity of NyGuard Plus should kill adults who emerge during this time. Frequent vacuuming (every day or every other day) will also help encourage immature fleas to emerge more quickly while also picking up the organic matter on which larvae feed.

    NyGuard is GREAT!

    By Anonymous on 07/22/2013

After two treatments of Ultracide, the problem was better but not eliminated. I decided to try NyGuard to see if would eliminate my flea issue and it did. I was very impressed. I have seen to fleas in the past 3 weeks since I sprayed. I continue to vacuum daily and I have stopped our problem. I am going to spray NyGuard once a quarter just to be on the safe side.

    Awesome product

    By Nick on 12/05/2013

    Verified Purchase

This is an awesome product that works well. If you have a smaller home and a flea problem this is the way to go. If you have a large home it does get too expensive to do the two or three treatments required so if you have a sprayer that will produce a fine even spray then I suggest using conquer and nyguard concentrate. One drawback to this product however is the deodorizer in it smells like someone found a way to crossbreed the smell of febreze with the smell intensity of axe body spray. This is only during application though and does go away after a couple hours leaving a fresh smell.

    Helped eliminate flea problem

    By S. on 09/07/2017

I purchased this along with a couple other items to treat fleas. After using this product, I have not seen another flea. 10/10 I would recommend and purchase again in a heartbeat if I have fleas.

    Great product

    By Lori on 03/23/2016

I truly loved this product and thought it was working with Suspend SC but I may have been doing something wrong or just had to big of an infestation. Our first time ever problem happened 6 months ago with fleas and they have been getting fewer and fewer but not gone and outside is also a nightmare. We do all the home remedies and thorogh cleaning over and over and over and we just could not get rid of all the fleas. I am not criticizing this product I thought it was working but I finally called a professional.

    Flee control

    By Nanalove on 02/07/2014

Great product. The only reason for a 4-star rather than a 5-star rating is that the spray tops in each of the cans were somewhat flawed. One did a bit of foaming along with the very fine spray, dropping blobs of product on my carpet. The other can's sprayer focused a stream rather than a misty spray, making the carpet very wet and unable to forecast in a wide arc. Other than that, good stuff. No obnoxious fumes, either.

Q
Can NyGuard Plus be applied for carpet beetles on all carpeted areas of the home?

I'd like to eliminate all chances of infestation and re-infestation as carpet beetles are really hard to control and are very destructive. I'd like to treat furniture, closets, carpet, bare floors, etc. Entire home.

Q
How long does NyGuard Plus stay in the carpet?

We have 2 kids 2 and 3 months who are on the carpet. We want to ensure its safe for them to play, on the carpet. Our concern for the new baby is that she may put her mouth on the floor.

A
Typically the residual of the NyGuard Plus is roughly 7 months to give you continuous flea protection. That being said, as long as you keep kids and pets off the surfaces that were sprayed until everything has had time to completely dry, it will cause them no harm to be on the surface or put their mouth on it.
