Why use a mattress encasements for bed bug control?
Bed Bug Mattress encasements are a recommended addition to any bed bug treatment program. You will still need to treat infested areas of the bedrooms. However, because the #1 breeding ground for bed bugs is the mattress and boxspring, you can now just spray and then zip up these critical areas which will eliminate a large part of the infestation. In addition, this can save an infested mattress so you don't have to throw it out and buy a replacement. Any eggs and/or bed bugs trapped in the encasement will eventually die. Mattress encasements are also nice because they provide very few if any places for bed bugs to hide and harbor (compare that with all of the folds, seams, nooks and crannies of a mattress and box spring), and they are clean and white making future investigation and treatment easy. Also consider that if you should find bed bugs on your mattress again at some point in the future, treatment would be as easy as taking off the mattress encasement and washing it in hot water. Again, the key harborage areas for bed bugs would be protected, and so would your mattress investment.

We recommend spraying an infested mattress with bed bug control products first before encasing it and then keeping the mattress encasements intact for at least 12 months (bed bugs can live a very long time without a blood meal). The bed bugs and eggs inside will die, and the mattress will be protected from further infestation.

    Mattress Cover

    By Missy on 09/14/2010

I have three of these in different sizes. Obviously, the full was the easiest to put on the mattress. But even the king size wasn't that difficult. I recommend these for anyone who's as phobic about bed bugs as I am, anyone who plans a preemtive strike.

    beautiful cover

    By Sarah on 08/13/2010

    Verified Purchase

Delighted to find an antibug mattress cover that is *also* beautifully made and perfectly fitted, with soft smooth bright white cloth of the highest quality. Really elegant and well worth the difference in price. And great to find one for a slimmer mattress--we have a Shiffen that measures less than 8 inches and many of the covers on the market are 18 inches. No shipping charge and very fast delivery!!

Protect-A-Bed AllerZip Bed Bug Mattress Cover - KING

    By Daryla on 09/28/2010

    Verified Purchase

Very sturdy. Does not cause perspiration (like most plastic/non-porous covers do) and has a soft cotton topping. Zipper locks so no chance of the zipper coming loose. Very satisfied with this product--price was reasonable too.

    Easy to put on mattress

    By Theresa on 03/02/2011

    Verified Purchase

I have had this product for about 8 months it did keep the bed bugs I had inside the bed and killed them, but even after spraying the areas several times the bugs clinged to the zipper area and I was still getting bites. I recommend this product for allergies and dust mites but not for BED BUGS unless you buy new bedding and keep plastic on bedding and put this cover over the plastic than it should be great!! Also this product is the same price as other stores in every area.

Q
Do I need to buy an encasement for the box spring as well, or does this cover both mattress and box spring?
A
The Protect-A-Bed AllerZip Bed Bug Mattress Cover will only cover the mattress. You will need to purchase the box spring encasement separately. Both products are available on our website. The king size box spring encasement comes with a set of 2 twin xl box spring covers.

Q
My mattress is 11 inches thick. Will the 9 inch cover fit best on this bed?

Also, I like the smooth top covers, can I get one. Finally, my pillows are 15" X 27" X 6", which one is best for fit.

A
While you want a snug fit and the 9" encasement will stretch to fit an 11" mattress, you may want to go with the 11" deep encasement to ensure to rips or tears when putting it on or from pulling that will occur over time as you move on the bed. We do have the ability to get the smooth top encasements for you but you will need to call us to place an order for this as it is not one we keep on our shelf at all times. The terry cloth is the most common which is why we only have it listed on our website. The Standard Size Pillow Encasement will be the closest fit to your pillows. The cover will still be a little large but will work fine since as you lay on the pillow the size will change inside the encasement. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Q
Will it help with Carpet Beetles?

We are dealing with carpet beetles in our home. I found 2 dead larva in between the box spring and mattress. I vacuumed thoroughly. Will a mattress/box spring cover kill carpet beetles should there be ones hiding in the box spring?

A
We haven't had anyone raise this particular concern before regarding this insect. We are contacting the manufacturer regarding how it holds up against the carpet beetles and will let you know if it will work for your needs. In the mean time you can look over our article on How To Control Carpet Beetles  which includes links to the products you can use to treat safely in your home for the insect.
