    Q
Can you please recommend a product for insects that invade in spring/summer in Minnesota?
We have the usual problem with spiders etc. We had a problem with carpenter ants in the past. We were using Orkin. We're ready to take this on by ourselves now.
    A
Cyper WP would be a great choice for indoor and outdoor spider control as well as general pests. The active ingredient in Cyper WP is cypermethrin, which is known to be one of the top choices for spider control. Spraying Cyper WP will also help to get rid of the insects that spiders feed on and that will help to stop new spiders from moving in. Indoors, spray around all baseboards, door frames, window frames, under appliances, in closets and storage rooms and in areas where utilities enter into the structure. Outdoors you should spray around the bottom of the foundation, on the ground adjacent to the foundation, door frames, window frames and places where the utilities enter into the structure.

    Q
After applying Cyper WP outside and letting it dry, can I let my cat outside?
The cat eats vegetation (grass, weeds, etc) that has been sprayed with Cyper WP. I can`t watch cat all the time to keep it from eating sprayed vegetation. I must spray vegetation to establish a perimeter around house to kill scorpions, etc. Is this harmful to my cat? Do you sell a bittering agent I can add to spray? If it rains a day or two after I spray will Cyper WP become toxic to animals when it gets rainsoaked? Thank you.
    A
Cyper WP should be applied when your cat is not in the area and completely dry prior to re-entry. It is safe when dry and will not reactivate when it rains. We do not carry a separate bittering agent to apply to the insecticide. You should apply prior to a rainfall for the most effective pest control. It should not be applied to any edible vegetation.

    Q
Which product has longer residual benefits against wasps, Delta Dust or Cyper WP?
I have an extreme problem with wasps in wood deck and pool fence. I can't let the kids even go out for fear they will disturb a nest. Trying to get ahead of the problem early this year.
    A

You should apply a surface application with a spray such as Cyper WP that is labeled for wasps. This will give you a 30 day residual outdoors. If you know where the nesting location is, you can dust with Delta Dust to offer a longer added residual to the entry of the nest when the wasps are the least active at night. Make sure the kids are not near the treated area during application and until the product dries completely.

    Q
Any version that works longer than 30 days for Carpenter Bees?
    A

We recommend looking at one of our Carpenter Bee Kits for a complete treatment program for Carpenter Bees. Most insecticides used outdoors will only have around a 30 day residual. Please read the information below for guidelines on how to do treat thoroughly for this pest.

    Getting Rid of Carpenter Bees

Carpenter bees nest in wood; they do not eat it like termites. Before treating, make sure you have located all entry points of the bees, which look like perfectly round ½ inch holes. We sell all the products mentioned below, and all are included in our carpenter bee kits.

    • There will be male carpenter bees hovering around the openings. The male bees do not have stingers but may act aggressively and startle passersby. You can choose to use a knockdown aerosol to eliminate these bees or just swat them away. Females are equipped with stingers but rarely sting.
    • An insecticide dust is the key product you will use to kill carpenter bees. A dust product like D-Fense Dust is perfect for the small holes that lead to the bee’s chambers. The bees will have to pass through the openings and will come in contact with the dust. Using a hand duster will ensure the dust can coat the tunnel surfaces and reach deep into the tunnels. There may be many entry holes and it is important to treat them all.
    • After you have treated the entry holes, the holes need to be plugged. However, you should not plug these holes while the bees are inside; they are likely to chew their way out. The larvae hatch and emerge in the spring – when you are most likely to notice them- so treat when you see them and notice the holes. Treat again in the summer and once more in early fall, before the bees return to their chambers to overwinter. It is very important to plug the holes because carpenter bees will return to their old nests every year. Use plastic or wooden plugs or putty and always finish the wood with varnish, sealant, or paint to further deter the bees.

    Q
Can Cyper WP be used for flies?
    A

Cyper WP in the 1 lb jar has been discontinued by the manufacturer due to recent EPA regulations. It is available in an envelope that contains 4 wtaer soluble packets and called Cyper WSP. The packets are equal to the scoop in the 1 lb jar that was previously available. The product is labeled for flies. Please refer to the product label for complete mixing and application instructions.

    Q
    Will Cyper WP kill roaches?
    A

Yes Cyper WP is labeled for roaches. We strongly recommend you use an IGR (insect growth regulator) such as Gentrol IGR, to stop the reproductive cyle of those roaches along with a roach bait such as Maxforce FC Magnum? for optimal roach elimination. Please read over our Roach Control Article for more helpful hints regarding roach control.

    Q
What do I need to use to kill camel crickets and spiders? Deltamethrin Dust?
    A
Dust is sometimes a good option for those insects, but sometimes it can be a little messy.  I would say our best seller is actually a dust you mix with water called a wettable powder.  Wettable powders are good because they make a solution in a one gallon hand pump sprayer which is usually easier to apply, and when the water dries it leaves a residual layer of dust behind which is easier for the insects to pick up on their bodies.  Sometimes when you apply dust it can be easily over applied and not as effective.  This being said, we would recommend Cyper WP.

    Q
Is Cyper WP effective against Allegheny Mound Ants?
We have Allegheny Mound Ants will Cyper WP be an effective product to control and or rid our property of this type of ants. We also have fire ants and maybe one or two other species of ants but the Allegheny Mound Ants are causing the most problems since they are so aggressive.
    A
Yes, Cyper WP should be effective if you use it as a drench on the mounds. Using a shovel, scrape away the top of the mound and pour one gallon of the diluted Cyper WP into the mound. Unfortunately we cannot find one product that has been labeled for Alleghany Mound ants. Cyper WP is labeled for ants in general and fire ants specifically.

    Q
What products should I use to get rid of a heavy infestation of millipedes?
I have dead and crawling ones every morning inside and outside
    A
Millipedes are usually going to be present when there is a lot of moisture in the area. If you have a lot of mulch near your house you may want to consider raking it back at least six inches away from the house. Also trimming bushes so that you can see the soil beneath them and so they do not touch the house will help reduce soil moisture and stop the insects from gaining access to the house via the bushes.  We recommend using Cyper WP around the outside perimeter of the home (especially under and around eaves, decks, patios, and window shutters), and inside along baseboards, in cracks and crevices, and other potential millipede harborages. We have also written an article with other tips that may help you with millipede control : Get Rid of Millipedes

    Q
Once a carpenter ant nest is found, what are some options for direct treatment?
Through treatment by traditional sodium borate formulations I've managed to drive the carpenter ants from my house. After some searching I've found their nest outside. I setup several small containers of the sugar formulations and spread Advanced 375 over the area. It looks like it worked to some extent but the ants are still there though in diminished numbers. They are no longer taking the sodium borate sugar solutions and they are no longer taking the Advance 375. What else do you recommend for direct application to the ground above and underground nest? The size of the area is 3 feet by 4 feet roughly ovular and when they were feeding they were consuming 1-2 fl oz of Terro a day.
    A
If you know where a nest is, then direct treatment with an insecticide that will kill quickly is always the best solution.  The best method is to use a liquid insecticide or a dust directly on the nest.  For liquid you should use Cyper WP  which is a powder you mix with water in a one gallon hand pump sprayer.  It will kill the ants quickly once you drench them.  You can also treat the nest with a dust which spreads through the nest quickly.  We would recommend Delta Dust for this application.  One benefit of using Cyper WP is that it is labeled for all other insects as well and can be used inside and outside the home around the perimeter as a general use pest control treatment.

    Q
For a 25 gal pest spray rig, how many scoops per tank do I need to put in for my regular pest customers?
    A
Cyper WP comes with a scooper, and you are supposed to use one scoop per gallon of water.  However, most companies do not use wettable powders in larger sprayers because you are supposed to keep wettable powders constantly agitated.  You should only mix what you plan on using that day.  You should not leave wettable powders overnight or else the powder will settle in the tank and cause problems for the pump and hose the next day.  So just be careful not to mix too much that you can't use on the day you are servicing your customers.

    Q
I breed rodents and I need to spray for bugs, will Cyper WP kill them?
I breed my rodents in a enclosed storage building and it is well ventilated.
    A
Cyper WP should not harm the rodents when used as directed on the product label. The product label indicates that all animals and people must be removed from the area while the product is being applied and they can re-enter once the treated area is dry.

    Q
If my wife is pregnant is it safe to use Cyper WP?
    A
As long as you read and follow the Cyper WP product label there should be no health or safety issues for a pregnant lady or anyone else. Only people that are applying the products should be present at the time of the treatment, all other adults, children and pets should be out of the room. Everyone can re-enter the treated room as soon as the area is dry and the room has been vented, which usually takes about an hour.

What is the best way to control and get rid of cluster flies?
    A
We recommend that you read our article How to Get rid of Cluster flies. This article will explain how to stop them from coming in and what to do if the cluster flies have already gained entry. Cyper WP would be a good choice for outdoor control around the perimeter of your home. Be sure to spray around door frames, window frames, around the bottom of the foundation and anywhere else the flies can gain entry.

    Q
    Lizard horror
I live in Florida and I am terrified of lizards, snakes and frogs. How do I keep lizards out of my house? I had one in here today at the bottom of my sliding glass door and after my panic attack. I was able to get my neighbor to catch it and take it outside. Please help. I heard that moth balls keeps them away, some mixture of hot sauce, and water. But I need something. I'm terrified to leave out of my front door. I only use my garage door. PLEASE HELP ME.
    A
There are no toxic products labeled for lizards, geckos or any reptiles or amphibians, and given the highly beneficial nature of these creatures there is not likely to be any products for them any time soon. The reason they are on your property is because they can find food and harborage. Take away their food and they will forage somewhere else. Take away the conditions they need for hiding and they will seek refuge someplace else.

You really have two options here:

1.Exclusion. Total exclusion can be hard to achieve particularly around the roof-line where there are going to be gaps that would be very hard to close off, but there also could be some obvious flaws such as broken vent screens, holes around cables, pipes or wires, or gaps under doors. All of these can easily be closed with brush strips, caulking, copper mesh (Stuf-fit), or some other suitable material. Exclusion is the best choice, because it is permanent, and eliminates or reduces the problem in the future too.

2.Outdoor habitat modification. In short get rid of the reasons lizards are there in the first place. They are there because they are finding the food they need to survive (insects) and a place to harbor. If you can eliminate either of these essentials, you can get rid of the lizards. Spray a good residual insecticide such as Cyper WP around the outside of your home to help cut down on the number of insects the lizards are eating. If lizards cannot find enough food they will either move on or starve. Eliminate as much clutter and debris around the outside of your home as possible to eliminate the places lizards like to hide. Rake back mulch or rocks at least 6 inches from the structure

If you need to get rid of the lizards that are already indoors the only options are catching them by hand or using glueboards placed in areas where the lizards travel.
