SenSci Volcano Bed Bug Detectors are a great tool for monitoring and stopping any bed bug infestation. The well-designed monitors have a discreet design that will fit right into any room. The transparent bottom makes inspecting the monitor fast and simple. The design makes it maintenance free and prevents any build up of dust. The SenSci Volcano measures 3 x 3 x 1 inches. SenSci Volcano Bed Bug Detectors can be used alone, but when it is used with SenSciActiv, which is a lure developed by Rutgers University, it will create an even more effective bed bug monitor.
SenSci ActivCR Bed Bug Lures are sold separately for use with these monitors.

Constructing SenSci Volcano
To construct a SenSci Volcano, remove a clear bottom from the box and identify the side with the textured square. Snap the side with the textured square into the black top. Make sure the textured square in the center of the clear bottom is inside the monitor once the bottom is snapped in (should be able to read “Made In USA” and recycling logo if looking at the bottom of the monitor once put together).

SenSci Activ Bed Bug Lure is an attractant designed to increase the probability that a bed bug monitor detects the presence of bed bugs. The mild odor from this product will dissipate shortly after opening the packet.
Directions:
Constructing SenSci ActivVolcano
Open a SenSci Activ packet by following the directions on the Activ packaging. Center an open packet on the clear bottom of a SenSci Volcano (place packet on the side with the textured square). With the Activ packet in place, snap the bottom of the Volcano into the black top of the Volcano (being sure the textured square and packet are on the inside of the monitor). Make sure the Activ package is not pinched between the bottom and top of the Volcano.
Activ Usage
Preliminary research suggests that SenSci Activ packets be replaced every 2-3 months for optimal results. For expiration information, refer to the expiration date embedded in the seal of the packet.
Volcano or ActivVolcano Placement (see figures on attachment)
Bed bugs are known to travel along seams and edges. Knowing that bed bugs use seams and edges to travel around an environment, it is reasonable to expect bed bugs to walk along baseboards until they gain access to their host on the bed or couch. Therefore, to increase the chance of detecting bed bugs with a monitor, place monitors in areas of suspected travel such as corners of the room or along baseboards near sleeping areas. Monitors should also be placed next to legs of the bed or couch to increase your odds of detecting bed bugs.
Place SenSci Volcano or ActivVolcano flat on any surface bed bugs are known or suspected to travel or hide. Possible locations include but are not limited to along the baseboard and next to bed and couch legs. Inspect the monitor periodically for the presence of bed bugs. If bed bugs are found, dispose of bugs by flushing down the toilet or disposing of them in a sealed bag in an outdoor trash can. It is recommended to replace Volcano once per year.

Review on Traps and Pheromone

As a experienced Operator and applicator I had to try these when they first come out. I gave them several field tests and they work far better than the Verify. Light and easy to carry a few boxes in a service vehicle. They also work in the commercial sector really well where we have people going to stores and casinos and unknowingly drop them off. They are expensive starting out but my clients are on 90 day interval pheromone change service and this is far cheaper than a $150 inspection fee every time someone moves out of an apartment. Great for hotels. The folks that leave the poor reviews must not be experienced in pest control or looking for a cure rather than a tool for prevention. And we know that bed bugs have been around billions of years, only real effective control is done by human courtesy. And I recommend reading all directions carefully for handling and using the pheromone and traps. Get professional help if you have no training or understanding of the biology and control of bed bugs.

Please Read About This Product Carefully!

I did not read the product description carefully! This is a bed Bug product and you can not return it! This product does not come with the lure!!!! The lure is too expensive and according to the reviews it does not work very good! I would not order the lures for the traps because of the reviews! So I just threw them away! Lesson learned!

Works better than expected.

I was hesitant at first. I work in a medical facility in a large city. I placed these in various waiting rooms and have caught multiple bedbugs of all life stages. They also appear to be effective at capturing grain beetles as well.

Volcano bug detector

I have 60 beds that I want to monitor. Can these monitors be attached to the bed frame? Or can they only be used on the carpet?
SenSci Volcano Bed Bug Detectors can be used alone, but are much more effective when used with SenSciActiv, a lure developed by Rutgers University. They are not for use on a bed or bed frame, only on flat surfaces. Place monitors in areas of suspected travel such as corners of the room or along baseboards near sleeping areas. Monitors should also be placed next to bed or other furniture legs to increase your odds of detecting bed bugs.

How long does it usually take to find the bugs when using this product?
We do carry the SenSci Active Bed Bug Lures for the SenSci Volcano Bed Bug Detectors. How long it takes to find bed bugs using these products will vary depending on a number of factors, such as where they are placed in the room and the level of infestation in the room.

Unfortunately, the SenSci Volcano Bed Bug Detectors only include the 12 monitors. The SenSciActiv Bed Bug Lures are sold seperately.

There is no set number of uses with the SenSci Volcano Bed Bug Detectors. They can be used until normal wear and tear prevents doing so.

SenSci ActivCR Bed Bug Lures
The SenSci Volcano Bed Bug Detectors on their own do not have any kind of lure. The SenSci ActivCR Bed Bug Lures are designed for use with these detectors, and those use chemicals that mimic the chemicals on the surface of human skin.
