Ferti-lome Over the Top II can be used on vegetables, gardens, trees, shrubs, ornamentals and ground covers and stops growth of weed grasses within 2 days.
This product is not to be used to control grasses in lawns or turf.

Over the Top II Grass Killer is a selective systemic grass killer to eliminate existing weedy grasses growing in and around plant beds, landscapes, and individual shrubs and trees. It can be used through a hose-end sprayer according to the directions of the sprayer used or through a tank-type sprayer. Over the Top II can also be used around listed fruit and vegetable areas, see label, wherever listed weedy grasses occur. Use only tank-type sprayer.
Over the Top II kills most annual and hard-to-kill perennial grasses up to 1 foot high, including the examples listed below in one or two applications. Younger, actively growing seedling weeds are more easily killed than older, mature, well-established grassy weeds which may require a repeat application for control. Adding oil concentrate may help control of grassy weeds.

This Over the Top II is a great product that works very well as long as you follow the instructions to the letter. You must use an oil additive with it, such as Spreader Sticker, because all grass, even crab grass, has a waxy coating that causes water and chemicals to bead up and run off, thus greatly reducing the effectiveness of any chemical. I used Spreader Sticker with the Over the Top II and all of the crab grass that I sprayed had stopped growing after 24 hours and was completely dead within 10 days. Of course I sprayed the crab grass when it was still relatively small. It also worked, with the same result, on the Bermuda grass I sprayed.

I have a lot weeds in my shrub bed and I would like to use something that would kill the weeds but not the trees and shrubs.
We do carry a few products that can be used in flower beds and around trees and shrubs. Fertilome Over The Top Grass Killer (post emergent), Hi Yield Weed and Grass Stopper (pre-emergent) and Dimension 2EW (pre-emergent) and several others. We recommend you identify the weeds you are having issues with before selecting a product as most products only work for the weeds they list on their product labels. You can contact your local cooperative extension office and speak to the master gardener on staff if you need help identifying weeds. The master gardener can also tell you what type of herbicide will work best in your region right now (pre or post emergent) and won't damage your ornamental plants. Always be sure to read the product label of the product you select before purchasing to make sure the weeds you are trying to eliminate are listed and the ornamental plants you have are listed as a species that is tolerant to the herbicide. All product labels (for the products we carry) can be found on the individual product pages under the pictures of the product.
