Product Overview

Monterey B.t. Insecticide is an effective natural caterpillar and worm-stage pest control that is safe to animals, people, and beneficial insects like honeybees and ladybugs. The active ingredient is baccilus thuringiensis, a bacteria found naturally in soils. This bacteria paralyzes the target pest’s digestive system, causing them to stop feeding within a few hours of eating the product, where they will die within hours. Monterey B.t. can be used on fruits and vegetables, ornamentals, and shade trees. It can be applied up to one day before harvesting.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Apply Monterey B.t. when worms or caterpillars are first noticed, then repeat at five (5) to seven (7) day intervals while they are active. Apply more frequently to control heavy infestations. Apply thoroughlyto top and bottom of foliage. Reapply after heavy rains.

Monterey B.t. must be eaten by worms or caterpillars to be effective. After ingesting the insecticide, they immediately stop feeding, though they may otherwise appear to be unaffected for several days. Best results are obtained by treatments when worms are small; they must be actively feeding on treated, exposed foliage. You may apply Monterey B.t. up to and on the day of harvest.

HOW TO APPLY

Always shake or stir MONTEREY B.t. thoroughly before use. Partially fill sprayer with water before adding the application rate amount of product, then mix in product thoroughly and add remaining amount of water.

Spray leaf surfaces thoroughly, top and bottom, for complete control. Agitate regularly while spraying. Use all of spray mixture within 24 hours.

FRUITS AND VEGETABLES:

Mix 1.5 fluid ounces per 3 gallons of water (1 tablespoon per gallon) for a hand sprayer and apply to all plant foliage to cover an area of 1,000 square feet. Apply at first sign of infestation and repeat at weekly intervals when needed to maintain control of the following insects:

Cabbage Looper on broccoli, cauliflower, collards, kale, mustard greens, turnip greens, cabbage, celery, lettuce, melons, and tomatoes.

Imported Cabbage Worm on broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, collards, kale, mustard greens, and turnip greens.

Tomato Hornworm on tomatoes.

SHADE TREES & ORNAMENTALS:

Mix 2 fluid ounces per 3 gallons of water (4 teaspoons per gallon) for a hand sprayer or proportional amounts for a hose-end sprayer following manufacturer’s directions. Apply at first sign of infestation and repeat at weekly intervals when needed to maintain control. Apply to thoroughly cover all foliage surfaces of shade trees and ornamentals for control of the following leaf-feeding worms:

Bagworm, Spring Cankerworm, Fall Cankerworm, Gypsy Moth*, Tent Caterpillar, Elm Spanworm, Fall Webworm

*Apply when buds swell, but before leaves are fully open. If eggs hatch over a long period of time or if reinfestation occurs, spray about 14 days after first appearance.

10 STARS IS MORE LIKE IT:)

I bought this stuff and have used it religiously on my cole crops and tomatoes for loopers, horn worms, and cut worms twice a week. Last year I sprayed pesticides just to kind of keep up with them and still didn't end up with any brussel sprouts. This year my plants are prettier than the garden books:) And best of all I have good bugs this year; real butterflies, all kinds of good bees and therefore all kinds of produce:) I just cant rave enough. I wish I would of known a few years ago. I'm trying to stay organic and this makes it easy. Thanks!

    Monterey B.t.

Did not kill bagworm one. A total waste of over twenty dollars. Applied it several times to my trees, and the infestation was completely unchecked. This review is being blocked by the site too I strongly suspect. I keep submitting the review, and it will not go through. Asking for 75 to 300 words. Totally unnecessary.

    Great stuff

    By Kevin on 06/02/2017

It is VERY effective on critters it is designed to combat. (Why anyone would think it would be effective on bagworm is beyond me.) I use it on hornworm infestations. Very easy.

    It works

    By Larry on 07/22/2019

Use this product on petunias every 7 days and your plants will be beautiful. I have bought colorful petunias for years and have been unsuccessful because of the worms. This year I used BT as directed by my nursery adviser once a week and I have had beautiful plants. But you must apply weekly or more, I apply every Sunday.

Q
Can Monterey BT be mixed with garden insect spray for caterpillars at the suggested ration for each?

Can I mix 2oz/gal of Monterey insect spray with 1oz/3gal of BT??

A

Monterey B.t. Insecticide? is an organic OMRI rated insecticide and should not be mixed with any other insecticides.  Doing so would change its formula and composition and it would not longer work as intended.  Monterey B.t. Insecticide is mixed at 1.5 oz. per 3 gallons of water per 1,000 sq. ft. for Fruits and Vegetables and 2 oz. per 3 gallons of water per 1,000 sq. ft. for Ornamentals.
