Jecta has the effectiveness of Bora-Care in a gel form for sealed or hard-to-reach wood.

Jecta is a ready-to-use injectable borate gel used by pest management professionals to protect sealed or inaccessible wood from termites and other wood-destroying organisms. It is typically used to reach places where Bora-Care cannot be applied effectively. Jecta's patented carrier system facilitates rapid penetration throughout wood of any moisture content. Jecta comes in 10 oz tubes that are loaded into a common caulking gun style applicator, making application convenient and easy. For those who are concerned about using "green" products, Jecta is formulated with a concern for the environment and has low mammalian toxicity - less than half that of table salt, yet because of how it works, it's still deadly to decay fungi and insect pests.

Jecta is a termiticide, insecticide and fungicide that kills and controls:

  • Drywood termites
  • Subterranean termites
  • Formosan termites
  • Wood destroying beetles
  • Carpenter ants
  • Decay fungi

How Does Jecta Work?

The active ingredient in Jecta is the same as that in the liquid concentrate form of Bora-Care: a borate salt. Borate salts work by taking advantage of a unique feature in the biology of termites, ants and other insects. If ingested by ants, beetles or termites, the insect becomes unable to extract nutrition from its food and starves to death. And because of this unique mode of action, insects cannot develop a resistance, ever.

Jecta offers the same advantages that Bora-Care delivers and works differently than most other insecticides, termiticides and even other borate products on the market today. It is applied directly to wood rather than to the soil, but unlike Bora-Care, it is injected as opposed to sprayed, misted or foamed onto building materials. Jecta comes in a patented gel form allowing it to be applied to places that a Bora-Care liquid application cannot reach, such as sealed wood or extremely hard-to-reach areas. And also like Bora-Care, its unique patented blend of glycols in combination with the borate salt controls and prevents termites, wood decay fungi and wood destroying beetles. It is formulated with a concern for the environment and has no known resistance.

How Is Jecta Used?

Jecta can be injected through any wood surface coating and is designed for application to wood by injection into voids, checks, cracks, pre-drilled holes, or injection sleeves designed for this purpose. In order to facilitate re-application in high-risk areas, a plug of material such as cork, rubber, wood, caulk or an injection sleeve should be used to seal the injection site. The use of injection sleeves allows for easier, subsequent applications and also permits injection under pressure in order to increase the volume of Jecta applied per injection site.

Use Jecta in areas where Bora-Care cannot be applied effectively, and where wood decay or insects are present or in high-risk areas vulnerable to infestation. This includes wood that remains moist or is subject to frequent wetting, or wood in contact with the ground or soil. Examples include flooring and foundations systems; window and door framing and headers; exterior steps, porches and decks; roof trim and soffits; attics and roofing; porches and garages; fence posts, pilings and piers; log construction; utility poles and railroad ties.

    Drywood Issue

    By Sharon on 03/10/2016

Product worked great! Have an old table that had drywood termites in it. I didn't want to sand it down to treat with the BoraCare product, so did some homework and found Jecta. You actually put it inside of the wood so no need to sand down to raw wood. I recommend this product.

Good but messy product- be prepared

    By Dan on 02/14/2024

    Verified Purchase

1- Make sure your holes are a min. of 1/4" dia. If you are trying to avoid big holes or furniture- be prepared. 2- Product is like hydraulic fluid- more than what you have with caulk. The product absorbs a LOT of pressure and even if you quickly pull back on the caulk driving rod to release pressure, it will keep going and going and going so make sure you hold the nozzle to the injection hole for a good minute or have a towel or rag instantly ready when you back away from the hole you're injecting into. 3- For same reason in 2, if you put the cap on quickly, the pressure retained will push back on the plug up inside the tube and I've had oozing. 4- I have a stainless steel large marinading-type injector I tried to use, and Jecta is too viscous for that if anyone is thinking of using that (as I did) to get into smaller holes. 5- Have hot water and paper towels ready. As noted in 2 above, if you do have drips, Jecta has a molasses-like consistency and if you get any drips on your walls or furniture, you'll need hot water, not just towels to clean the residue or it will stay sticky. All in all, it's a great product for it's application, and I actually use it anytime I put up shelves in existing walls (since I have the opportunity) just to share the wealth with any termites I don't know about- have a hole, why not for the sake of prevention. I do like how it is less watery for some applications than diluted BoraCare. Jecta per specs indicate it can spread further in wood than BoraCare's typcial 2-4" penetration- a claim I doubt considering how viscous Jecta is but they must believe it. I do like I don't have to mix anything too- but definitely, you need gloves, towels, and water on hand- it can be a mess.

Q
Will the Jecta be absorbed into the wood, saturating it?

I have a joist with drywood termites and have drilled a number of holes into it injecting them with Jecta. Where the holes intersect the termite tunnels it fills the cavities with solution, but where it doesn’t, it stays in the holes, not being absorbed into the surrounding wood. Will it eventually be absorbed into the joist? If so how long should I expect this to take?

A

Jecta  will over time dissapate into the wood. It will not saturate it though. This came happen over the course of a few months.

Q
Do I need an applicator for Jecta or do I use a caulk gun? How large would a hole need to be to inset Jecta?

Dry wood termites in door trim that is stained

A

Jecta should be applied with a caulking gun. There is not a specific hole size this product should be applied in, however, the label does give more specifics about how much should be applied in various size holes.

Q
If I have termites in a piece of wood furniture, can I put it in a closed trailer and use a bomb?
A

Simply bombing may not get to the wood boring pest inside the wood. If the furniture is not stained or painted, you can apply Boracare direclty to the wood. If not, you can also inject a product called Jecta. Jecta is a ready-to-use injectable borate gel used by pest management professionals to protect sealed or inaccessible wood from termites and other wood destroying organisms. It is typically used to reach places where Bora-Care cannot be applied effectively.

Q
How long does it take for Jecta to work?

I'm applying this to control old house borers. I can listen to hear them in the wood. How long should it take for the Jecta to address them and the noise to stop?

A

Jecta  takes time to spread through the wood from where it was injected.  It can be up to 30 days.  Once insects have ingested the treated wood it can take up to 24 hours or so for them to die.

Q
Can I use Jecta by removing the caulking around the window instead of drilling, and then reapply the caulk?

Do you have a better product that can be used around the window?

A

Jecta is a ready-to-use formulation of Boracare that is designed to be used on wood that is already finished or that may be hard to reach to treat with Boracare. If a windowsill or frame has wood-boring beetles and the wood is raw, then it would be best to treat the wood with Boracare. You could then paint, seal, or stain the wood after treatment. If the wood is finished and you were to remove caulking, then you would still need to drill into the wood in order to apply the Jecta to the infested spots.
