How PT Ultracide Works

PT Ultracide Spray contains Permethrin and Phenothrin to kill adult fleas fast. It also contains Pyripoxyfen (an insect growth regulator) to prevent reinfestation for up to seven months. Pyripoxyfen penetrates deep into the base of carpet and upholstery fibers, where pre-adult fleas live and targets fleas in the egg and larval stages of development, preventing them from producing new infestations of breeding, biting adults.

While the insect growth regulator in PT Ultracide will continue to work for up to 7 months, it is recommended to re-apply PT Ultracide after 14 days if new fleas continue to emerge. This will increase knock-down of new adults. Preparations and cleaning such as vacuuming thoroughly before and after treatments will also greatly affect the success of Ultracide. See below for complete treatment instructions.

PT Utracide Target Pests

Flea eggs and larvae, adult fleas

PESTS CONTROLLED WITH PT ULTRACIDE: all stages of fleas

Target Uses of PT Ultracide

For indoor treatment of active flea infestations and to prevent flea infestations from developing. Prevents re-infestation for 7 months. Ultracide is also ideal when treatment is limited to a few areas or the convenience of an aerosol ready-to-use product is desired.

ACTIVE INGREDIENTS: 0.05% Pyrethrins, 0.4% Permethrin, 0.1% Pyripoxyfen

PT Ultracide Application Instructions

How do I use PT Ultracide Spray to treat for fleas?

  1. Identify treatment areas: especially those where pets frequent, such as in and around pet's sleeping and resting areas. These are the primary areas where fleas and their eggs are found. (Before treatment, a test application should be made to upholstery, drapery, light-colored, delicate fabrics, or wood surfaces in an inconspicuous place.)
  2. Prepare treatment areas: For best results with Surface/Carpet treatments, vacuum thoroughly before spraying and discard vacuum bag in outside trash. (This product may also be used for infested surfaces inside motor vehicles.)
  3. Apply treatment. For flea infestations, a single can treats 2000 square feet. Hold container upside down 2-3 feet from surface, point actuator towards the surface and push button. Using a sweeping motion, apply a light uniform spray to all surfaces of furniture, rugs, carpets, drapes, and around all pet resting areas. Avoid thoroughly wetting surfaces. Mist treated areas only until "slightly damp". Do not over-treat. Reapply in 14 days, if necessary. IMPORTANT: Only complete and proper application to carpets, upholstery, drapes, and other fabrics will provide thorough flea/tick elimination. Keep children and pets out of areas during treatment. Vacate room after treatment, and ventilate until surfaces are dry before reoccupying.
  4. For best results, eliminate fleas on pets with an approved flea product like Petcor Flea Spray or a product recommended by your veterinarian.

Always read the product label completely before use.

Each 20 oz. can of Ultracide covers up to 2,625 square feet.  An area of 80 – 100 square feet can be treated in approximately 10 seconds. Keep in mind that most infestations will require at least one follow-up treatment after two weeks.

PT Ultracide is for use in the following areas:

In and around Apartments, Automobiles, Homes, Hospitals, Hotels, Kennels, Motels, Offices, Schools, Supermarkets, Transportation Equipment (Buses, Boats, Ships, Trains, Trucks), Warehouses, Utilities, Veterinary Clinics and Other Commercial and Industrial Buildings

Indoors

For flea control, follow the step-by-step directions above. When treating upholstered furniture, treat under cushions and in areas where flea development occurs. Cover aquariums and fish bowls and remove birds from area prior to treating.

PT Ultracide is excellent for porous flooring such as concrete, however it may stain finished flooring, such as hardwoods. Also, fleas will rarely harbor on sealed hardwood flooring.

Fleas may appear for up to two weeks after treatment. This is the pupal window – when younger stages of fleas may still emerge – and the residual activity of PT Ultracide should kill adults which emerge during this time. Frequent vacuuming (every day or every other day) will also help encourage immature fleas to emerge more quickly while also picking up the organic matter on which larvae feed.

Outdoors

PT Ultracide is not intended for use outdoors.

PT Ultracide Features

  • Convenient ready-to-use formulation has adulticide and insect growth regulator all in one.
  • No additional equipment is needed to measure or apply Ultracide.

Extra Tips for Using PT Ultracide

  • Ultracide is NOT labeled for use on animals. Keep pets out of treatment area until product dries.
  • Treat outdoor areas where pets play, rest, or otherwise frequent to prevent re-infestation using appropriate products such as our Indoor/Outdoor Flea Kit.
  • Try using a paper towel to mark “hot spots” where pets frequent, and pick up just before you treat the area.
  • Wash or dispose of pet bedding before treatment.
  • Additional cleaning such as steam cleaning or mopping should be done prior to application of Ultracide.

    This stuff is great.

    By Joe on 08/15/2009

As a tech, I do this for a living and Ultracide is the only product I will use for fleas. My company wants us to use other products, but I won't until they stop buying it. Remember to read the label. I also tell my customers to vacuum everyday for the next 2 weeks after using Ultracide, it brings the adults out of the pupa stage and gets rid of them faster!

    What a blessing!

    By Mary on 10/14/2008

I live in the south where the fleas are quite a bother, and as we have 5 dogs that stay indoors, it has been a job fighting the fleas. We purchased the Ultracide from our local vet and what a blessing it has been. We only used 1/2 a can for our 1400 sq foot house and after just 24 hours our dogs are resting much more comfortably. I have not seen a flea since then and as an added bonus I found that the Ultracide also kills the huge palmetto bugs that plague us here. It is well worth the cost and I have found that I am now saving more money by using the Ultracide as I do not need to purchase the topicals such as Frontline or Advantage. Thank You.

    By Lisa on 05/25/2010

    Verified Purchase

I bought this 3 weeks ago, sprayed the entire house, we had fleas really bad...jumping and biting my 10 month old.  Pprior to using Ultracide, I had spent alot of money on those bomb things and used them over and over...the fleas would come right back. After spraying Ultracide I have not seen a flea since. I will continue to use this and recommend it highly to anyone.

    Proper Use

    By Nate on 03/17/2010

I used to use this product as a tech. Works great if you vacuum everyday to "wake up" the eggs and larvae. If you don't vacuum before application and everyday after then don't bother trying any product.

    Great for flea infestation

    By Kathleen on 03/23/2011

    Verified Purchase

Best price I could find with free and fast shipping to boot. I have 4 indoor cats that picked up fleas from a visiting dog. Fleas were so bad that I was picking them off of me everywhere I went. Once the cats were treated, I misted all carpeting, baseboards, and upholstery with Ultracide. No need to apply heavily. I immediately noticed a difference. Vacuumed thoroughly the next day. Reapplied Ultracide about a month later. We've been flea-free ever since and the spray can is still at least half full! Would highly recommend this product and this company. However, it is aerosol so remove pets until the mist settles and wear a protective face mask when applying. It's still much more convenient than foggers.

Q
How long do you wait to vacuum rugs after application?

I most recently bought Ultracide from my local pest control store and applied it to my carpets. I have one particular hallway that is the most affected area. It seems all the adult fleas have been killed and now we only see the tiny little fleas. Should I continue to vacuum the rugs to get rid of these little fleas? The pest control person told me to wait at least one week to see if the product truly worked, and I should not vacuum or clean the floors because it would remove the product from the carpets and floors. Is this a good idea since the eggs can lay dormant for some time before hatching?

A
It is our recommendation and industry standard that you vacuum immediately before the application of Ultracide and every day or every other day after the application for the next two weeks. Vacuums can physically remove a decent percentage of flea eggs that are in the carpet, along with much of the organic crud that the flea larvae feed on. A critical part of the diet of the larva is dried blood, present there as fecal material from the fleas that are on the pets. Wherever the pets spend time they will shed the fecal matter and the eggs, so it is extremely important that you focus on these potential hot spots where the pets sleep. A vacuum also will remove a small percentage of larvae, but the larva is pretty tenacious, and will wrap around the carpet fibers down there at the base of the pile, and hold on for dear life as the vacuum passes by. The pupa is even tougher to physically remove, for it uses fibers as part of its "cocoon". But, the vacuum will stimulate the flea adults still in their pupa form to quickly emerge as the adult, and at this point perhaps be sucked up in the vacuum. Even if they are not removed by the vacuum, at least they now are exposed and susceptible to your treatment. After two weeks most infestations require that you do a second application of the Ultracide and continue with the vacuuming.

Q
Is Ultracide flea spray safe to use around children and pets?

I am concerned about a chemical application for obvious reasons. If you spray Ultracide aerosol on your carpet, sofa, chairs, bed etc. does it have the potential of making myself children and pets sick? It can't be a good thing. Are there any secret to use this as effectively as possible without harming loved ones?

A
Ultracide is a very safe and effective flea control product that is used widely by professional companies such as Terminix and Orkin in homes with children and pets all the time.  As long as you follow the directions on the product label, there are no issues with anyone in the home being sick.  You should only apply this product to carpeted areas and upholstered areas.  Do not apply on top of couches and chairs where people rest their arms, fleas do not breed in these areas.  You would want to spray around the foot of the furniture, and underneath couch cushions.  You should have children and pets in another room while you are treating.  After treatment allow 30 minutes to dry and then it is perfectly safe for children and pets to re-enter the room.

Q
What is the best indoor flea killer?

I have used every "buy it in store" flea killer you could purchase. I even brushed sevens dust in the carpet. It killed most of the fleas, but now I have the little rice larva looking things crawling in my carpets. I have a dog and cat, but he is treated regularly. Any advice on what to buy from you guys? I just want these stupid things GONE.

Q
Does Ultracide flea spray work on concrete basement floors?

I've heard that with sprays, they are soaked into the concrete and not as effective.

A
Ultracide does work on nearly all surfaces, including concrete floors.  Since concrete floors are very porous, an aerosol works well because the particle size of the product is so small it can evenly coat the porous surface and work its way in tiny cracks and crevices where the fleas like to lay their eggs.  If you were to look at concrete under a microscope, it would look like the moon, full of large cracks and crevices and crater like indentations.  Aerosol particles are so small they can fill these quite easily and therefore work very well on concrete surfaces.
