    Q
What is the difference between water based pesticide and oil based pesticide?
What is the diff between oil and water based pesticide in terms of effectiveness and long lasting residue?
    A
Water based insecticides are the most commonly used insecticides today because they have low or no odor and they usually do not stain. Oil based insecticides are used in cases where the product may need to stay wetter for a longer period of time and they are usually used outdoors to avoid odor issues and staining. Oil based insecticides usually need to be diluted with oil or you must use an additive such as adjuvant to dilute the product in water (always read the product label for proper mixing instructions).  However, even water based insecticides today can last up to 90 days and have long residuals.

    Q
Will Pyrocide 100 get rid of German roaches? Can I purchase it as a consumer and not a professional?
    A

Pyrocide 100 will kill roaches and is a very good product.  However, it is a fogging solution and must be applied from a fogger.  Anytime you fog, you should wear proper safety equipment.  This product is also a contact kill, meaning it will kill whatever roaches it touches at the time it is fogged, but it does not leave a residual.  You should always apply a residual roach control product or roach bait after you have fogged initially since some roaches may be hiding in the walls or other areas that the fog cannot get to when you apply it. This product is also perfectly fine for consumers to purchase it and apply it as long as you are using it for your own property.

Please see our Roach Treatment Guide for more tips and information about how to treat for this pest.

    Q
    Is Pyrocide 100 water based?
Can it be used in a fly spray system in a barn? Will it hurt horses or human eyes and lungs?
    A
Pyrocide 100 is an oil based ULV solution.  It can be applied in a fly spray system.  It is labeled to apply to horses.  However, if you are looking for a water based ULV solution which we do recommend for use around livestock, you should use Riptide which is made by the same company that makes the Pyrocide 100.

    Q
How long after application is Pyrocide 100 effective?
Is Pyrocide 100 similar to products used by professional exterminators for control of household small black ants and Hobo spiders?
    A
Pyrocide 100 is a fogging solution and like all other fogging solutions it is a contact kill.  This means it does not leave a residual and once it is dry its effectiveness is over. It will only kill what is out in the open when it is applied. If you want to use the most popular product used by professional companies, then you should look at Talstar P.  It lasts 60 - 90 days and is labeled for over 80 different insects including ants and spiders, and is the most widely used insecticide by professional companies.

    Q
Can I use this as a fogging agent and combine it with insecticide?
At the same time? Such as demand cs or another insecticide to be used together?
    A
Pyrocide 100 is a fogging solution and is a contact kill. A product such as Demand CS is not labeled to be used in a fogger but can be applied with a pump sprayer. We would recommend using the Demand CS if you are wanting more of a residual effect against pests. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Q
Is Pyrocide 100 safe for all mammals and fowl? If not, do you have one that is?
We have a farm with everything from bees to knats and flys and ants. We need something safe for our geese, turkeys, chickens, ducks, rabbits and all other fowl. Please suggest a product that is 100% safe.
    A
Pyrocide 100 is safe when used as directed on the product label. All animals and people need to be out of the area when Pyrocide 100 is being applied and they can return to the area as soon as the product is dry and the area has been ventilated. While Pyrocide 100 is known to be safe to use around most animals and people, we recommend checking with your veterinarian to be sure it is safe to use around your animals.

    Q
Is Pyrocide 100 the best way to get control of a mosquito problem?
We treat our pond regularly with mosquito dunks and we have always had success this way. This year we cannot get control. We have a thermal fogger and just ordered Pyrocide 100. It does not seem to have helped much at all. Is there another product that would work better? We also have a hand sprayer if that type of application would help more. We do have two young children and a dog who are in the lawn all the time.
    A

The best method of controlling mosquito populations include using an instant knockdown, along with a residual insecticide, and an insect growth regulator. Pyrocide 100 works fantastic on the adults that contact the insecticide at the time of application and provides an instant knockdown, but not any residual protection. Treating your pond with mosquito dunks is a great way to prevent larva development and should be continued. However, we would recommend that you use a residual insecticide that will continues to kill mosquitoes even after it dries. This would provide much better protection. Essentria IC3 would be a great option as it has an outdoor residual of 21-28 days and it is safe for the aquatic life in your pond in the event of water runoff into the pond. Essentria IC3 may be used in a fogger (cold and thermal) and/or a sprayer. Please be sure to read and follow the label instructions for the products that you are using.

    Q
The Pyrocide 100 label advises not to use around vegetation, so should we use something else around a pool?
We have a small thermal fogger to kill mosquitoes and gnats around the yard, but don't want to kill our plants and shrubs!
    A

The Pyrocide should pose no threat around a pool and typically is not an issue with plants and shrubs, but it is not labeled to apply to gardens or other outdoor areas.  We do have a product that is less costly and approved for garden use, and it can be applied from a thermal fogger.  It is called Bug Beater Lawn & Garden Fog and it works great for mosquitoes.
