Kari from Mcminnville writes

The neighbor sprayed Crossbow diluted in their yard and half our birch is yellow and leaves limp, what to do?

The tree is near the back fence and they sprayed a large area (per the labels instructions they say) 2 foot high x 15 ft weeded overgrowth and I fear it was absorbed by the root base. We gave it a good bath and washed down the root base soil area for a while. Help!!! We love our only 30 ft river birch tree!

Answer:

Crossbow is a vegetation management product which means it is not very selective, it will kill almost anything.  Although it will not harm a tree when used at recommended levels if it gets on the base of the tree, it will harm a tree if you spray Crossbow on the foliage.  If the tree itself was not sprayed directly there could be another cause for the issue.  It would be best to speak with a local arborist or horticulturalist who is more familiar with any tree issues in your area.
