    Q
What can I use to get rid of geckos?
I need something that can be sprayed in the house as they seem to get inside a lot.
    A

There are no toxic products labeled for geckos, lizards or any reptiles or amphibians, and given the highly beneficial nature of these creatures there is not likely to be any products for them any time soon. The reason they are on your property are because they can find food and proper habitat. Take away their food and they will forage somewhere else. Take away the conditions they need for hiding and they will seek refuge someplace else.

You really have two options here:

1.Exclusion. Total exclusion can be hard to achieve particularly around the roof-line where there are going to be gaps that would be very hard to close off, but there also could be some obvious flaws such as broken vent screens, holes around cables, pipes or wires, or gaps under doors. All of these can easily be closed with brush strips, caulking, copper mesh (Stuf-Fit), or some other suitable material. Exclusion is the best choice, because it is permanent, and eliminates or reduces the problem in the future too.

2.Outdoor habitat modification. In short, get rid of the reasons geckos are there in the first place. They are there because they are finding the food they need to survive (insects) and a place to harbor. If you can eliminate either of these essentials, you can get rid of the geckos. Spray a good residual insecticide such as Cyper WP around the outside of your home to help cut down on the number of insects the geckos are eating. If geckos cannot find enough food they will either move on or starve. Eliminate as much clutter and debris around the outside of your home as possible to eliminate the places geckos like to hide. Rake back mulch or rocks at least 6 inches from the structure.

If you need to get rid of the geckos that are already indoors the only options are catching them by hand or using glue boards placed in areas where the geckos travel.

    Q
What type of hormone based glue trap works best for carpet beetles?
    A

Carpet beetles are not specifically attracted to any kind of glue trap. Trapper LTD is a non-poisonous glue trap that will trap mice and insects. Cy-Kick Aerosol is a very good product to spray for carpet beetles as well. It is a crack and cervice spray that will provide a fast knockdown for insects.

We do also recommend vacuuming. This will remove the larvae and adult beetles that are already in your home. Regular vacuuming and laundering of rugs, furniture, and linens can help to ensure the beetles are removed and have no food source. If you find a contaminated item, bag and remove this item from your home, if possible. Also, proper storage is a good thing to practice. Before storing silks, woolens, or furs, dry clean as the beetles are attracted to stains and soiled garments. Store in a well-sealed container, using mothballs. Mothballs can limit the beetle’s attraction to the wool or silk. Store pet food, dried meat, and other dried animal products in a well-sealed container. Another thing to do is maintaining outdoors. Adult carpet beetles are most commonly found outside. They feed on pollen and nectar, but lay eggs in bird, rodent, bee, or wasp nests or old spider webs to give the larvae an abundant food source. Clearing these away from your home, along with checking near highly pollinating plants near your house and checking cut flowers for the beetles before bringing them inside.

    Q
We have been invaded by "rice weevils", mostly in the bathroom and some in cupboards and in flour, corn, rice
it is approx. 1/16x1/8 in., black/brown has 6 legs & feelers, don't think it has a snout. There are many and we have sprayed with no avail, driving me crazy.
    A
Pantry pests can usually be controlled by a thorough cleaning out of all infested product and scrubbing of the infested areas (pay special attention to cracks and crevices) and then applying a residual insecticide such as Cy-Kick Aerosol to the cracks and crevices and also an insect growth regulator such as Gentrol Point Source to the cabinets. The growth regulator will help stop the breeding process while you are trying to get rid of the pest and can make all the difference in your treatment program. Still, without finding the source and getting rid of it your treatment program will not be successful. It can take a couple of months to control a pantry pest infestation.

    Q
How do you rid of mice in a restaurant kitchen?
    A
If an infesation already exists in a commercial kitchen, the use of glue boards and or snap traps will be necessary. Place the traps near areas where dropping have been found or near areas where rodents or rodent damage has been found. The use of rodenticides (rat poison or mouse poison) is usually inappropriate in indoor areas. A rodent could succumb to the effects of the bait and die in an area that is inaccessible causing a horrible stench, flies, maggots, roaches, and beetles. After you get rid of the rodents indoors, you will need to stop new rodents from taking their place. Rats and mice are notorious for finding their way indoors. They can find even the tiniest crack in a structure and force there way in. Here are some hints and tips to help prevent an infestation:
    • Try to locate as many entry points as possible and seal them with Stuf Fit Copper Mesh or other suitable material

    • Keep dumpster areas as clean as possible and keep lids closed when not in use.

    • Keep grassy areas mowed to eliminate possible hiding spots.

    • Place rodent bait stations near dumpster areas and along outdoor structure walls to kill rodents outdoors.

    Q
Can the Trapper LTD glue boards be used for bed bugs?
    A
The Trapper LTD Glueboards can be used for bedbugs, but they may not be as effective as the glueboards that have been specifically designed to catch bedbugs. The Catchmaster Bedbug Detection System (glueboards for bedbugs) is a patented device designed to detect bed bugs. BDS is a passive monitoring device that provides what would be considered a perfect harborage area for bed bugs - a place they prefer to hide and breed. Bedbugs favor tight, dark spaces and textured surfaces. This is why they tend to hide in cracks and crevices of wooden furniture or in the creases of mattresses. Bedbugs also like the small grooves in corrugated boxes.  The Catchmaster BDS trap recreates these favorable conditions using a unique patented adhesive pattern that is coated on a coarse cardboard surface that bed bugs love. The combination offers bedbugs an ideal place to hide.  Once bed bugs enter a BDS trap, they get stuck on the glue adhesive inside.

    Q
I just received my order. You FAQs had a question about scent, and your answer was "un scented"
These most certainly do have a scent.
    A
The Trapper LTD Glue Boards are un scented. They have no peanut butter scent or other food grade ingredients to attract mice or insects to them like other boards have. The smell you are finding is simply the scent of the material the manufacturer uses as the adhesive on the board. It is similar to a wicker basket, it is going to have its own natural distinct smell and isn't made to smell that way its just how it naturally is. Same with the glue adhesive used on these boards. In the future for a completely unscented board you could try our Trapper Max Free Glue Boards which have almost no scent at all in the adhesive, all you would smell is the cardboard it is attached to.

    A
Trapper LTD glueboards will capture just about any insect that crawls onto the glue and this will help you determine what areas need further treatment.

    Q
How do I catch mice running down pipes in my house?
Hi, I saw a mouse the other morning as it ran down the 2 inch pipe that drains the utility sink in the garage, that is one of the 'mouse highways', I'm wondering if these glue boards will conform to the shape of the pipe and stay put?! Will I have to use double sided tape? I'm already using your bait stations to great success but this is a banner year for mice in the Colorado Springs area because we have had such a long and cold Winter like most of the world. I've been watching my two young Dachsunds (they've caught five) and also the birds of prey as their actions tell me of more mouse activity than anything else.
    A

You can wrap the Trapper LTD mouse glue boards around the pipe, but you most likely will need some type of adhesive to keep the glue board in place. Another great choice for mouse control is the Mini T-Rex snap trap. These traps can be placed in/on mouse runways or tied to pipes or beams that mice  may use as highways. A removable bait cup in the center of the trigger pedal makes it easy to add baits including new Provoke Mouse Attractant. You can watch our instructional video explaining how to use the traps on surfaces such as pipes or beams.

    Q
A lizard came in the house during repair. How do I catch or kill him?
    A
The only thing you can do to get rid of the lizard is put glueboard traps in areas where you suspect the lizard will visit. There are no poisons on the market for lizards since they are for the most part a beneficial creature.

    Q
If a mouse gets stuck on the Trapper LTD Mouse/Insect Glue Board does it die by itself or do you have to kill it?
    A

The easiest way to kill a mouse after it has been stuck on the Trapper LTD Mouse/Insect Glue Board is to submerge it in a bucket of water. This will drown the mouse immediately.

    Q
How should rat-mouse glue boards be placed in a small warehouse setting (food bank)?
I am trying my best to tell our volunteers how and where to place glue boards to attempt at some control, along with other rodent-be-gone products (I don't want them moving what I place, but they do anyways). What I need is a diagram to copy so I can give crew so they better know placement of the glue boards. They move them to where they think they want them, paying no mind how ridiculous it may be. We are very satisfied customers of DoMyOwnPestControl, and thank you for your products, help and advice. I could sure use some type of copyable diagram... Sincerely, frustrated in California
    A
Unfortunately we have no such diagram and certain states have different requirements for how they want rodent control to be handled at warehouses.  We recommend that you either call your state's department of agriculture, or try calling Bell Laboratories, as they are the largest producer of rodent control products and they may have some sort of diagram or suggestions better than what we could give for your situation.  You can reach them at 800-323-6628.

  • Asked by Lori from Wisconsin
    03/03/2016
    Q
Is the Trapper LTD Mouse/Insect Glue Board perforated to where it can be folded or torn to make two separate glue boards?
Is this the Bell Trapper that is perforated with each board containing three separate traps? You can tear them apart or you can put together like a pyramid. Those are the ones I have typically bought in the past, so wondering exactly how many traps are in this particular order. Thanks.
    A

The Trapper LTD Mouse/Insect Glue Board is not perforated or meant to be torn into 2 glueboards. These boards measure 8 inch long by 4 inch wide. The Trapper Monitor and Insect Trap TM600  is a non-poisonous glue trap that captures and monitors insects. The sturdy 7" x 3.5" cardboard trap can be used individually as a large trap (100 per box) or separated along perforated lines into three smaller traps (making 300 total small traps).

  • Asked by Laura from Fort Worth, Tx
    10/30/2018
    Q
What is the best way to treat for mice in the wall voids and between the 1st and 2nd floor?
Have not been able to locate where they are entering but think it is the wall adjoining the garage. Currently using snap traps and poison blox in the garage. I have not seen any dead mice from the poison or from the wood traps.
    A

Treating for rodents can take time and it is very common that you will not always see the dead rodents as they become immobile once the poison hits their central nervous system. Depending on the rodenticide you are using, this can take hours up to weeks. We would suggest using the rodent bait in tamper-resistant bait stations outside the perimeter of the garage and home. Rodents will leave the house to search for a water source and travel along the exterior wall of the home where they will come into contact with the bait station. Be sure you are wearing gloves while handling the rodent bait blox and are checking the bait stations every 14 days. Replenish any eaten bait blox with fresh bait and bait that has not been eaten in 30 days or longer.

Rodents are very smart and afraid of new objects in their runway or that may pose a danger. They travel by sense of touch and smell, so it is very common for the traps to be unsuccessful at first. Take a moment to review our How to use Snap Traps article and How to Set Snap Trap Video for more information.

Fastrac Blox in Protecta Mouse Bait Stations are a good choice for clean out bait and to secure the bait. Bait Stations keep kids, pets and allow you to monitor the bait consumption. Fastrac Blox will provide a lethal dose after a single feeding resulting in death within 24-48 hours after they have consumed the bait. Use 1 bait block per placement (at intervals of 8 to 12 feet) Larger placements, up to 4 blocks, may be needed at points of extremely high mouse activity. Once the pail is open, it is good for 1 year and should be stored in a cool dry place. Unopened pails have a shelf life of 2-3 years. Replace bait as needed and make sure gloves are worn when handling the bait blox. Please read our article on the most common reasons for Rodent Bait Failure to better help and watch our video on How to Use Rodent Bait Stations

Mice can fit through a ¼ inch opening so thoroughly inspecting the exterior perimeter for signs of gnawing, gaps around plumbing, foundations, vents, under the roof line, under patios, etc will help locate the entry points so they can be sealed off. Inside you will look for droppings, gnaw marks on the legs of furniture, baseboards, cabinets, cardboard, traces of fabric used for nesting like cotton, string, insulation, etc. Once the entry points are identified and treatment has been done, you can work Mice Prevention and Rodent Proofing Your Home for Fall.

While there are pesticides on the glueboard that would cause harm, we recommend first contacting your Veterinarian in the event this happens. You can also use vegetable oil to neutralize the glue to remove Trapper LTD Mouse/Insect Glue Boards from pets or other surfaces accidentally.
