Treatment for Magnolia Scales

I want to apply Infuse to ward off magnolia scale. My plant is about 10' tall and 20+ years old. I understand that I can pour a mixture of infuse into a 1-gallon bucket of water and pour this within an 18" circle around the base of the miniature tree as a "root-absorbing" application once a year...preferably in the early spring. How much Infuse (ie, Tbs) should I use for this amount of water?

Answer:

Bonide INFUSE Systemic Disease Control is not labeled to control scale so we are unable to provide dilution rates for that use of the product.  Adonis 2F Insecticide/Termiticide which conains Imidacloprid would be a better product to use.  You would use .1 to .2 oz per inch of trunk diameter.  It can take up to 8 weeks for the product to completely translocate through the tree so timing is key.  Application timing of systemics is very important and it varies from region to region. We recommend you contact your local cooperative extension office and speak to the master gardener on staff as he or she will be able to give you the most accurate information in regards to application timing.
