PT Ultracide - 20 oz.

PT Ultracide, previously known as Ultracide is a very effective flea control aerosol that provides immediate kill of adult fleas and prevents formation of new adults from eggs or larvae. Ultracide dries quickly and will eliminate flea problems for up to seven months. (Ultracide differs from Precor 2000 in that Ultracide has an initial faster kill.)

How Ultracide Works

Ultracide Spray contains Permethrin and Phenothrin to kill adult fleas fast. It also contains Pyripoxyfen (an insect growth regulator) to prevent reinfestation for up to seven months. Pyripoxyfen penetrates deep into the base of carpet and upholstery fibers, where pre-adult fleas live and targets fleas in the egg and larval stages of development, preventing them from producing new infestations of breeding, biting adults.

While the insect growth regulator in Ultracide will continue to work for up to 7 months, it is recommended to re-apply Ultracide after 14 days if new fleas continue to emerge.  This will increase knock-down of new adults.  Preparations and cleaning such as vacuuming thoroughly before and after treatments will also greatly affect the success of Ultracide.  See below for complete treatment instructions.

Utracide Target Pests

Flea eggs and larvae, adult fleas

PESTS CONTROLLED WITH ULTRACIDE: all stages of fleas

Target Uses of Ultracide

For indoor treatment of active flea infestations and to prevent flea infestations from developing. Prevents re-infestation for 7 months. Ultracide is also ideal when treatment is limited to a few areas or the convenience of an aerosol ready-to-use product is desired.

ACTIVE INGREDIENTS: 0.05% Pyrethrins, 0.4% Permethrin, 0.1% Pyripoxyfen

Ultracide Application Instructions

How do I use Ultracide Spray to treat for fleas?

  1. Identify treatment areas: especially those where pets frequent, such as in and around pet's sleeping and resting areas. These are the primary areas where fleas and their eggs are found. (Before treatment, a test application should be made to upholstery, drapery, light-colored, delicate fabrics, or wood surfaces in an inconspicuous place.)
  2. Prepare treatment areas: For best results with Surface/Carpet treatments, vacuum thoroughly before spraying and discard vacuum bag in outside trash. (This product may also be used for infested surfaces inside motor vehicles.)
  3. Apply treatment. For flea infestations, a single can treats 2000 square feet. Hold container upside down 2-3 feet from surface, point actuator towards the surface and push button. Using a sweeping motion, apply a light uniform spray to all surfaces of furniture, rugs, carpets, drapes, and around all pet resting areas. Avoid thoroughly wetting surfaces. Mist treated areas only until "slightly damp". Do not over-treat. Reapply in 14 days, if necessary. IMPORTANT: Only complete and proper application to carpets, upholstery, drapes, and other fabrics will provide thorough flea/tick elimination. Keep children and pets out of areas during treatment. Vacate room after treatment, and ventilate until surfaces are dry before reoccupying.
  4. For best results, eliminate fleas on pets with an approved flea product like Petcor Flea Spray or a product recommended by your veterinarian.

Always read the product label completely before use.

Each 20 oz. can of Ultracide covers up to 2,625 square feet.  An area of 80 – 100 square feet can be treated in approximately 10 seconds. Keep in mind that most infestations will require at least one follow-up treatment after two weeks.

Ultracide is for use in the following areas:

In and around Apartments, Automobiles, Homes, Hospitals, Hotels, Kennels, Motels, Offices, Schools, Supermarkets, Transportation Equipment (Buses, Boats, Ships, Trains, Trucks), Warehouses, Utilities, Veterinary Clinics and Other Commercial and Industrial Buildings

Indoors

For flea control, follow the step-by-step directions above. When treating upholstered furniture, treat under cushions and in areas where flea development occurs. Cover aquariums and fish bowls and remove birds from area prior to treating.

Ultracide is excellent for porous flooring such as concrete, however it may stain finished flooring, such as hardwoods. Also, fleas will rarely harbor on sealed hardwood flooring.

Fleas may appear for up to two weeks after treatment. This is the pupal window – when younger stages of fleas may still emerge – and the residual activity of Ultracide should kill adults which emerge during this time. Frequent vacuuming (every day or every other day) will also help encourage immature fleas to emerge more quickly while also picking up the organic matter on which larvae feed.

Outdoors

Ultracide is not intended for use outdoors.

Ultracide Features

*Convenient ready-to-use formulation has adulticide and insect growth regulator all in one.

*No additional equipment is needed to measure or apply Ultracide.

*Ultracide is NOT labeled for use on animals. Keep pets out of treatment area until product dries.

*Treat outdoor areas where pets play, rest, or otherwise frequent to prevent re-infestation using appropriate products such as our Indoor/Outdoor Flea Kit.

*Try using a paper towel to mark “hot spots” where pets frequent, and pick up just before you treat the area.

*Wash or dispose of pet bedding before treatment.

*Additional cleaning such as steam cleaning or mopping should be done prior to application of Ultracide.

5 of 5 stars  This stuff is great.
By Joe in syracuse, ny on 08/15/2009

As a tech, I do this for a living and Ultracide is the only product I will use for fleas. My company wants us to use other products, but I won't until they stop buying it. Remember to read the label. I also tell my customers to vacuum everyday for the next 2 weeks after using Ultracide, it brings the adults out of the pupa stage and gets rid of them faster!

    5 of 5 stars  What a blessing!
    By Mary on 10/14/2008

I live in the south where the fleas are quite a bother, and as we have 5 dogs that stay indoors, it has been a job fighting the fleas. We purchased the Ultracide from our local vet and what a blessing it has been. We only used 1/2 a can for our 1400 sq foot house and after just 24 hours our dogs are resting much more comfortably. I have not seen a flea since then and as an added bonus I found that the Ultracide also kills the huge palmetto bugs that plague us here. It is well worth the cost and I have found that I am now saving more money by using the Ultracide as I do not need to purchase the topicals such as Frontline or Advantage. Thank You.

I bought this 3 weeks ago, sprayed the entire house, we had fleas really bad...jumping and biting my 10 month old.  Pprior to using Ultracide, I had spent alot of money on those bomb things and used them over and over...the fleas would come right back. After spraying Ultracide I have not seen a flea since. I will continue to use this and recommend it highly to anyone.

By Nate in Chicopee, MA on 03/17/2010

I used to use this product as a tech. Works great if you vacuum everyday to "wake up" the eggs and larvae. If you don't vacuum before application and everyday after then don't bother trying any product.

5 of 5 stars  Great for flea infestation

Best price I could find with free and fast shipping to boot. I have 4 indoor cats that picked up fleas from a visiting dog. Fleas were so bad that I was picking them off of me everywhere I went. Once the cats were treated, I misted all carpeting, baseboards, and upholstery with Ultracide. No need to apply heavily. I immediately noticed a difference. Vacuumed thoroughly the next day. Reapplied Ultracide about a month later. We've been flea-free ever since and the spray can is still at least half full! Would highly recommend this product and this company. However, it is aerosol so remove pets until the mist settles and wear a protective face mask when applying. It's still much more convenient than foggers.

I used these products, from do my own pest control, and quickly wiped out the fleas in one room. I used specifically this spray to kill any remaining fleas from the room. I also had to vacuum despite the fact that I have hard wood floors and so far no more bites from fleas.

    5 of 5 stars  Worked!!
By Lc in Charleston, WV on 11/10/2017

Fleas in a concrete-floor basement. Sounds like it should be fairly easy to resolve. It wasn't!! After one treatment with Hotshot foggers (useless) and several treatments with Raid (better, but still had fleas) and 3 treatments from Orkin (again, reduced in population but still had fleas) - I ordered and used PT Ultracide and have seen not one flea in 2 weeks. I will admit they were greatly reduced by prior treatments, but nothing seemed to be eliminating them entirely until Ultracide. Highly recommend it, especially for concrete floors.

I had to spray my car. All those nooks & crannies were hard to get to. It doesn't spray upwards. I get bitten now only once a week. Where as before it was many times. per day. But none of the retail stuff worked. This really cut them down. Will have to do it again.

5 of 5 stars  works like a charm
By Sue in Tacoma, WA on 08/19/2017

My home and I were itching from a first time flea growth. I tried everything I could naturally using diatomaceous earth and washing everything and vacuuming everything while treating our indoor only cat with Advantage flea meds. I thought that would limit it or eradicate. It didn't. They always came back and it was getting worse. I caved and decided to bring out the real stuff after hearing a friend talk about how effective Ultracide was in a huge flea infestation he had with a rental home that went hog wild with fleas everywhere. It came in the mail quickly and I did everything according to the label even though I resist using pesticides. I am so glad I did it. It was easy. I left the house and locked my cat up in a safe room for over half a day. No sign of fleas. I am rejoicing and no longer itching. My cat is happier too. Highly recommend! Use as directed. It's fast and easy once you do the prep ahead of time before spraying.

QHow long do you wait to vacuum rugs after application?
I most recently bought Ultracide from my local pest control store and applied it to my carpets. I have one particular hallway that is the most affected area. It seems all the adult fleas have been killed and now we only see the tiny little fleas. Should I continue to vacuum the rugs to get rid of these little fleas? The pest control person told me to wait at least one week to see if the product truly worked, and I should not vacuum or clean the floors because it would remove the product from the carpets and floors. Is this a good idea since the eggs can lay dormant for some time before hatching?

AIt is our recommendation and industry standard that you vacuum immediately before the application of Ultracide and every day or every other day after the application for the next two weeks. Vacuums can physically remove a decent percentage of flea eggs that are in the carpet, along with much of the organic crud that the flea larvae feed on. A critical part of the diet of the larva is dried blood, present there as fecal material from the fleas that are on the pets. Wherever the pets spend time they will shed the fecal matter and the eggs, so it is extremely important that you focus on these potential hot spots where the pets sleep. A vacuum also will remove a small percentage of larvae, but the larva is pretty tenacious, and will wrap around the carpet fibers down there at the base of the pile, and hold on for dear life as the vacuum passes by. The pupa is even tougher to physically remove, for it uses fibers as part of its "cocoon". But, the vacuum will stimulate the flea adults still in their pupa form to quickly emerge as the adult, and at this point perhaps be sucked up in the vacuum. Even if they are not removed by the vacuum, at least they now are exposed and susceptible to your treatment. After two weeks most infestations require that you do a second application of the Ultracide and continue with the vacuuming.

QIs Ultracide flea spray safe to use around children and pets?
I am concerned about a chemical application for obvious reasons. If you spray Ultracide aerosol on your carpet, sofa, chairs, bed etc. does it have the potential of making myself children and pets sick? It can't be a good thing. Are there any secret to use this as effectively as possible without harming loved ones?

AUltracide is a very safe and effective flea control product that is used widely by professional companies such as Terminix and Orkin in homes with children and pets all the time.  As long as you follow the directions on the product label, there are no issues with anyone in the home being sick.  You should only apply this product to carpeted areas and upholstered areas.  Do not apply on top of couches and chairs where people rest their arms, fleas do not breed in these areas.  You would want to spray around the foot of the furniture, and underneath couch cushions.  You should have children and pets in another room while you are treating.  After treatment allow 30 minutes to dry and then it is perfectly safe for children and pets to re-enter the room.

QDoes Ultracide flea spray work on concrete basement floors?
I've heard that with sprays, they are soaked into the concrete and not as effective.

AUltracide does work on nearly all surfaces, including concrete floors.  Since concrete floors are very porous, an aerosol works well because the particle size of the product is so small it can evenly coat the porous surface and work its way in tiny cracks and crevices where the fleas like to lay their eggs.  If you were to look at concrete under a microscope, it would look like the moon, full of large cracks and crevices and crater like indentations.  Aerosol particles are so small they can fill these quite easily and therefore work very well on concrete surfaces.

QI have used Ultracide for three weeks now, but I am still finding tiny fleas on my cat. What should I do?
We are vacuuming a few times per week, have applied Ultracide to all furniture, carpet, hardwood and drapes (home is mostly hardwood). Disposed of cat bedding. Cat (indoor animal) has been treated with Revolution three weeks ago. There are no visible fleas in the home, but the cat still has 15 or so tiny fleas each day when I use flea comb. What do I do next?

AUltracide should be used once every two weeks until you do not see fleas any longer. Light to moderate infestations will require at least 2 treatments and heavy  infestations may require three treatments. The product sounds like it is doing exactly what it is supposed to do, as you are not finding the large adult fleas, only the very small juvenile fleas that are emerging from their cocoons. At this point, you should treat again (be sure to wait at least two weeks from the time of your last treatment) and keep up the vacuuming.

QShould bath and kitchen mats that cats sit on be removed before using PT Ultracide?

A

If pets rest on the bath and/or kitchen mats, they can be treated with PT Ultracide or washed and dried in high heat.

QShould I leave mats on floor and treat them or wash them and bag them, or throw them out before using PT Ultracide?

A

We recommend that you remove the bath mats and launder (as the heat from the washer/dryer is sufficent to eliminate any fleas present). You will then vacuum the bathroom floor and then treat with PT Ultracide and leave. Allow to dry completely prior to anyone returning to the area (also proper ventilation). Please let us know if you need anything else.

QIs there another option for flea control besides an aerosol like Ultracide? Something I can mix in a gallon sprayer and spray myself?

A

Yes. You can use a product such as Permethrin SFR tank mixed with Martins IGR. The comination of these two products will give you an adulticide to ete the adult fleas and and insect growth regulator to help break the cycle of the immature fleas from developiing. Prior to treatment, carpets, draperies and upholstered furniture should be vacuumed thoroughly and the vacuum cleaner bag disposed of in an outdoor trash receptacle. Remove pets from area to be treated. After treatment, do not allow children and pets into treated areas until spray has dried. You may need to repeat these treatments 3-4 times in 2 week intervals depending on how bad the infestation is. Pets and yards should also be treated with approved products.

QIs there a way to prevent Ultracide spray from spotting while spraying it on laminate or real hardwood floors?
I am still rather new as a service technician with an exterminator service. Today I was told I could use Ultracide or PT Alpine aerosol on hard floors. I chose Ultracide, which spattered on the floors. I kept using my shoes to rub out the spots. Is there someway to prevent this, or is it common for this to happen?

A

PT Ultracide is excellent for porous flooring such as concrete, however it may stain finished flooring, such as hardwoods. Also, fleas will rarely harbor on sealed hardwood flooring.   Hold container upside down 2-3 feet from surface, point actuator towards the surface and push button. QDoes PT Ultracide work on carpet moths?

A

Unfortunately, PT Ultracide is not labeled for carpet moths. If you were looking for an aerosol product to use for clothes moths we would recommend the Cy-Kick Aerosol. This would give you nice residual control as well. We would also recommend that you use the ProPest Clothes Moth Trap. These traps have pheromones in them that attract the male moths which in essence stop the mating process so they can no longer reproduce.

QWhy does my PT Ultracide spit out lots of foam even though I shake the can continually?

A

When using PT Ultracide, it is possible to shake the can too much. We would recommend letting the can settle, then shaking well right before using the product, and then applying the product without shaking it again. That should take care of the issue.
