Peter from Knightdale, Nc writes

What is the purpose of putting a "drop" of topsoil in the fly trap when it is set up?

I don't have real topsoil, only a reddish clay dirt, I just set up my first bag, temps here now in the 80's, but I did not put any dirt into the bag as suggested, please advise, thanks

Answer:

The flies that you are trying to get to enter this trap are attracted to dirty water as this is where they would typically lay eggs and reproduce. Adding dirt to the solution in the Flies Be Gone Fly Trap will help make the trap  more attractive to the flies. We do not recommend skipping this step.
