A few years ago I kept finding a mess at the base of our chimney, that I though to be mouse dung. So I laid poison down but still kept finding this mess on the floor. Looking more closely at the mess on the floor it turned out to be wood particles from moisture damaged wood that rapped around the chimney at the roof level. I got the ladder out and through the rafters I went. There were thousands of these tiny ants making there home around my chimney. How they got to this point? A tree branch laying across my cable line coming into my garage. I cut this path off and after their slumber winter hibernation they were never seen again. I'm scratching my head on this one.
