Why aren't the measurements on Headwind Consumer Products EZ Read Rain Gauge the same as a tape measure?

When measuring the dashes and numbers with tape measure the numbers on the gauge are way off? More than one inch from 1 to 2, 2 to 3?? please explain

Answer:

Per the manufacturer the Headwind Consumer Products EZ Read Rain Gauge is scientifically calibrated for the funnel to catch an inch of rain compared to the tube size and is not measured the same as with a measuring tape.  You read the orange float to be accurate on the amount of rainfall.
